Uh. . . my kegerator decided to pour itself some beer.

What about a self closing faucet? keeps it closed for when you are too drunk to stop pouring! I have a 10 tap system (I own a restaurant/bar) and I wish I had more of them. My blue moon(only 1 of 2 non micro/craft beer) faucet leaps forward if you shut to door too hard of the front so I may be...

    Back-sweetening questions for cider keggers

My SWMBO is a big fan of simple caramel in her cider (water and sugar brought to a mid caramel) and I like that even though it WAS sugar, it wont ferment at all. Give it a shot.

Anyone ever use caramel in a cider?

OK, After some more tinkering I have found that 1 cup of sugar/gallon of apfelwein is a great starting point. I took 4 24oz bottles to a party 2 nights ago and it was a huge hit (all gone before anything else was)! Not to sweet and it let the apple still come though. I took sugar to a...

Threading holes into an aluminum pot

Has anyone thought of drilling and tapping threaded holes into the wall of an aluminum pot? With many people wanting to go electric, myself included, it seems like it could be a better solution than some conglomeration of nuts, washers, o-rings and things. I like it because I can't find anyone...

Looking to purchase a brew pot, have some questions

Here is the 60Q I use: http://www.katom.com/158-5813160.html I love katom.com and last year I spent over $20K with them(I own a restaurant). They are easy to work with and return to if there is a problem. Check them out. -Alan

    Everyone likes blow up pix!

FYI, pomegranate juice does not just wipe off the walls. Going to have to repaint it.

    Everyone likes blow up pix!

Ok, so I got done bottling a pale ale with about an hour to spare before some guests were to arrive in town for the weekend and thought... SWMBO already killed the first apfelwein too quickly and the next batch is a few weeks out, so I should start another one now so I can start another one in a...

Total Cider Noob: Trying to create a caramel apple drink

I am interested in BaronIV's oil expiraments and that would be an easy solution in place of making the caramel yourself. I made some caramel and added it to some juice and fermented it. SWMBO tried it and seemed to like it, then Sunday I came home from work and the gallon jug that was 3/4 full...

Anyone ever use caramel in a cider?

OK, good news everyone! Caramel does not ferment out as far as I can tell. Disclaimer: I am not a professional and I was not scientific in my testing. So, I followed a website that had found, http://www.baking911.com/candy/chart.htm , and made a small batch of caramel with just water and...

    I think I found a problem....want to verify.

I made a mistake my first batch and left my steeping grains in though the whole boil! It was tanic at first but a several weeks to a few months later is it much better, not great but I can tell the tanins are less pronounced. -ArXiX

    Home brewing can be dangerous....

If you keep StarSan or some other sanitizer in a spray bottle handy, you can spray down your propane lines and fittings and look for bubbles/leaks. It wont work as good as soapy water but hey, you already should have it handy. -ArXiX

can a bucket with a spout keep beer carbonated?

I have reused bottles from dozens of brewery's but I just found that if I reuse bottles from a Youngs Double Chocolate Stout, my carbonation is less than in other bottles. Im not sure why but im sure that its a US / Euro thing. Metrics? Anyone else have problems with Young & Wells bottles? -ArXiX

new brewer: thinking of replacing primary with better bottle

I have only done a few batches (6 if you include my caramel apfelwein experiment) and from what I can tell, I will be sticking with buckets for primary's. Even with all the "its good to see you beer" and all, a bucket is just flat out easier to clean out after a primary which makes the biggest...

Beers with pop top (pry off) bottles

Pry off: Abita Original Sin Corona but is in a clear bottle (bad) Stella Artois but is in a green bottle (not as good as brown) Anything found in my fridge Youngs Double Choc Stout is in a euro pint pry off but it seems its a few .001mm's larger than US tops and the crown seals but isnt as...

my first time using a wort chiller... was a disaster

Has anyone ever thought to put a 2nd-dary hookup UNDER the sink directly off the main shutoff so you can hook it up and break it back down without damaging you existing faucet? I would think you would just need a 3-way of whatever you already have, another shutoff valve and an adapter to what...

Anyone ever use caramel in a cider?

That flan syrup sound perfect and I have made that before. But, will it ferment out or can I use it to backsweeten?

Anyone ever use caramel in a cider?

Swmbo is starting to take a liking to my apfelwein that I just started brewing a few days ago and when I asked her if she wanted to formulate her own. She asks if she can make it with caramel and toasted pecans. Sort of a caramel apple pie. Caramel is just sugar, butter and heavy cream. Its...

amount of sugar to bottle carb

Couldn't you just bottle 2/3's of your batch, then add in 1/4 cup of priming sugar to the bottling bucket and then continue to bottle? That way its evenly distributed and its a lot easier to measure out 1/4 cup once than .9 teasoons several times.

How many cups in 2 lbs???

OK, so Bed Bath and Beyond had a nice 6lb scale in 1oz incremental for only $12!! And the award goes to AZ_IPA for being right on the money with his 1lb = 2.5 cups. Congrats and thanks for your input. I just got scared when there were a few people saying very different things. We are now...
