    Question about kegerator kit

I was looking at kegconnection.com last night and I saw that they have a couple of kits that allow you to use a 20 oz paintball CO2 canister. I haven't been doing a lot of homebrewing lately, so my main interest is to be able to have commercial beer on tap at home. Since I won't have to force...

    Too much iodophor?

I screwed up when mixing up sanitizer and used about an ounce of BTF in 5 gallons of water and it stained my plastic fermenter and blow-off hose. Will this cause a problem with my beer? I don't mind rinsing the fermenter out and re-sanitizing it if that's what I need to do. Thanks in advance.

Boston Ale brew is in the books....

The title says it all. I just pitched my yeast and have sat down to enjoy a Sam Adams Boston Lager. I decided a couple weeks ago that it was time to brew again, but I didn't know what to try to brew. My last brew was an SNPA clone and it turned out awesome. This time I decided to go with a...

Convert a recipe for me please?

I'm going to make a clone of Sam Adams Boston Ale and I found a good recipe, but I need it converted to either extract or extract + steeped grains. I've done a mini-mash before and just don't feel like doing it again at the moment. Can someone please convert the grain bill below to either...

    I've got an idea

I really like arrogant bastard, but I'm not a big fan of Chinook hops. Arrogant Bastard is damn good beer...don't get me wrong. But what if Cascades were used instead? I think I'll give it a try and see what I come up with. Any suggestions?

    Is it just me?

Is it just me or does Hop Devil taste very similar to Arrogant Bastard?

    good wine making book?

I know absolutely nothing about making wine...I make my own beer though. My dad has started making wine, but so far all he's used is the kits that have the juice concentrate and all the fining agents included. Can anyone recommend a good book or website that outlines making your own wine from...

    Where to get DAP?

I'm interested in making a mead, but all the resources I've found on making mead recommend a DAP addition at the beginning of fermentation and another at the 1/3 or 1/2 way point. Is Fermaid-K good enough for both nutrient additions? Is Fermaid-K and DAP the same thing?

    SNPA clone is in bottles...

Like the title says, the SNPA clone from Austin Homebrew is now in bottles after about 3 weeks of fermentation. I cracked one open tonight since I'm impatient. Impressions after two days bottling conditioning: this is good beer, but not as good as it will be after a few more weeks. The hops...

    Dead Guy or Arrogant Bastard?

Anyone in the DFW area know where I can get some Dead Guy or Arrogant Bastard? I've heard so much about them and I'm dieing to give them a try. I'll be near Sherman tomorrow, so if there a good place there post it up. TIA.

    dry hopping in bottles?

I've got about a half an ounce of Cascade pellets that I don't have anything to do with and I was wondering if I could put them in the bottling bucket with the priming solution and the wort and then bottle it all up. I've already dry hopped this beer (AHB's SNPA clone) with the other half of...

    Pacman yeast

I just got off the phone with the LHBS and I purchased their last pack of Pacman yeast. Now I just need a good recipe to use it in. I've read through the earlier post titled something about having a project, but I didn't find anything that I can do with my current setup. Would it be alright...

    Screwed up...maybe?

I brewed a SNPA clone from Austin Homebrew last Friday night. I followed the recipe to the letter. Then today I decided to look at Sierra Nevada's website and I saw that they claimed that their pale ale has about 35 IBUs. Interested to see what the recipe from AHB looked like, I plugged it...

    dry yeast like gangbusters

Has it just been my experience that dry yeast takes off like gangbusters and finishes most of primary fermentation in 36 to 48 hours? I brewed Friday night and by Saturday morning the airlock was chugging away like there was no tomorrow. Now this morning it is down to about 1 bubble every 90...

    Who else is brewing today?

My first attempt at a mini-mash is currently underway. I hit my mash temp on the button, but since I'm using a metal pot as my tun I'll probably have to re-heat or do an infusion half way through. I've still got to sparge and boil so my night is just getting started...... I'll keep everyone...

    starter for dry yeast?

Is it necessary to make a starter for dry yeast or is rehydrating sufficient? I bought some DME a while ago for making a starter for some WL yeast I was planning on buying, but I got dry yeast instead. I was planning on brewing tonight, but I forgot to make the starter a few days ago. So, do...

    SNPA clone?

Has anyone ever brewed the SNPA clone from Austin Homebrew and how close is it to the real thing? I've wanted to try SNPA for a while, but none of the local beer stores have it so I ordered the kit yesterday. I went with the dry yeast option since it is way too hot to be shipping liquid yeast...

    Iodophor mix for sanitizing

I purchased some Iodophor to use for sanitizing my equipment before my next brew. How much per gallon of water should I use?

Would I like an oatmeal stout?

With my second batch, a kit IPA, going into bottles in the next few days I was thinking about doing something a little different for the next batch. I really like the idea of brewing an oatmeal stout, but I don't know for sure whether or not I'd like the taste...since I've never had one before...

    lager recipe with ale yeast?

I know that using an ale yeast with a lager recipe will throw off the flavor profile a little, but no too much right? I ask becuase I would like to make a Shiner clone but lack the equipment for lagering. Any input would be appreciated. Nick
