Double IPA Dogfish Head 90 Minute Clone

I mashed at 149F for 60minutes... the temperature held perfectly for the entire hour. I sparged with 168F water by draining almost all of the wort from the mash, then pouring in a couple gallons of water and mixing. The mixing may have been my problem since in the past, I usually just pour my...

Double IPA Dogfish Head 90 Minute Clone

Brewed this up yesterday and thought that I was doing a pretty dang good job. Everything seemed to go off without a hitch but ended up short on my OG. I was hitting for 1.085 (I believe this recipe assumes a 72% efficiency). My final OG ended up at around 1.065 — any thoughts on why?? Do...

Irish Red Ale Rolf's Irish Red

Brewed this up today and up'd the Pale Malt/Maris Otter to 9lbs, everything else was as listed except I tried to get rid of some extra hops I've been keeping in the freezer from previous batches so I went with a total of 1.25oz. .66oz of Perle and .59oz Amarillo. Honestly I was really hesitant...

    Dark Mild March Brown Mild

Based on all the comments here I decided I had to try this recipe out! Unfortunately, I went down to my LHBS and they didn't have most of the British grains (which is to be expected?). Luckily, they recommended good substitutions and I was able to get 2/5 called for malts. I grabbed Magnum hops...

    Custom bottle caps?

Of course we can! We've only delayed the opening of the online store so we can focus on our brewery customers and getting the process down. We should be activating the store in the coming weeks. We're 100% operational and have been printing lots of brewery jobs so shoot me an email...

    Howdy from Boston

Welcome Bostonian! Was just there with my SWMBO a couple weeks ago for the first time. Incredible city. Had a great time at Boston BeerWorks sampling there brews there. Had 16 of their own on tap at the time and was really pleased with the offerings. Cheers.

    Hello from Northern California

Hey Dan, welcome! I'm not quite in IT, but my 'day job' over the past 10 yrs has been a web applications dev. Got any good LHBS in Woodland? Used to drive through that area lots going down to Winters to get fresh apricots. Cheers, Ben

    bottle over carbonated... any ideas?

If the bottles weren't clean enough, are you talking about nucleation sites where all of the CO2 in the beer would come out all at once? This makes sense to me. Think Mentos and Diet Coke!

    bottle over carbonated... any ideas?

I'm sure this is a controversial subject — Oxycaps. From what I understand and hearing from the head of the BJCP, Oxycaps are worthless as far as their ability to absorb excess oxygen in the head-space. I believe the residual yeast suspended in the beer can absorb and convert oxygen left...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

Apparently 5gal doesn't really mean 5gal. My second batch of Edwort's Apfelwein — first time I used a 6gal carboy, this time a 5gal. I couldn't fit all the cider in — see the pic, I'm concerned I'm going to get some blow-over on this batch. What do you guys think? First time I used the...

Welcome Josiah! How's Bellingham these day? I used to live near Mt. Vernon (I guess that's not exactly close is it). Cheers! Ben

    Curse you all!

I've got a batch of Apfelwein just finishing up, getting ready to bottle it up this weekend (ok, maybe I'll let it sit another month, not sure yet). Welcome!
