    Dishwasher doesn't clean pint glasses

The title says it all. My pint glasses go into the dishwasher with a bit of lacing and they come out covered in bits of food, water marks and random bits of other things. It's really frustrating and I have had to throw many glasses away because this stuff won't even come off with a good soak...

Please help me understand my water report

I got my results back from Ward Lab and I don't really know how to interpret them. I want to add gypsum to my apa's / ipa's but I am not sure how much with these results. Anything else I should be adding? Thanks! pH 7.5 Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) Est, ppm 135 Electrical Conductivity, mmho/cm...

    Blow off Tube Length

Hey gang, Has anyone had any issue with the length of their blow off tube slowing fermentation? I pitched a good size slurry and aerated properly, but fermentation is going much slower than normal. The only change to my setup is the length of the blowoff tube; I have about 3 extra feet in the...

    One night in Portland

Take the yellow max to North Portland and get off at Killingsworth. You will be coming from the downtown side so if you take a right on Killingsworth you will find Saraveza on your right. If you take a left on Killingsworth you will find the Hope and Vine. Both of these are great places...

    Mostly Willamette IPA

It will be great. I would wait till you hit FG and then rack off the yeast; any additional fermentation will drive off hop aroma. Bag you hops and taste the beer every day until you get the nose you want. I see great results about 3 - 5 days into dry hopping.

What beers to bring back from NYC?

Sixpoint Resin is a great IPA. Comes in cans too so it will be easy to pack.

What y'all think about this pale ale recipe

Also, I don't have to use the chocolate, the speciality grains I have on hand now are 60L, chocolate, flaked barley, Amber, and aromatic. I just thought the chocolate might add a nice color.

What y'all think about this pale ale recipe

Thanks for the quick reply. I will be using US 05!for the yeast. As for BeerSmith, I just bought the software so I'm not surprised some of the settings are a bit off; I usually end up with right about 5 gallons. I have a ton more simco and Amarillo, I will bump up each of the 0 minute additions...

    whirlpool hops

I think you will probably get some additional hop bitterness, it's just going to be really hard to accurately measure. You might want to try putting the recipe into BrewToad, http://brewtoad.com, and see the IBU's. This might help too: http://www.howtobrew.com/section1/chapter5-5.html

    whirlpool hops

I believe hop isomerization drastically drops off after 175F, could be wrong though. Check this out: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f39/what-temperature-do-hops-add-bitterness-256406/ I personally wouldn't worry about the 15 minute delay, just throw them in at flame out and chill as fast as you...

BG14 orifice and shutter too loose??

Thanks day trippr. Yes, it does have a spring installed between the orifice and the shutter. I will tighten the orifice to the hose and tighten the whole thing down so I can still rotate the shutter. It's just a little concerning having a moveable hose that could theoretically come unscrewed...

BG14 orifice and shutter too loose??

Hey guys, I just got a bg14 in the mail along with a 10' hose and 30 psi regulator from amazon. I know I need to make sure the orifice is not too tight to allow movement of the shutter. However, the only way for the shutter to still be able to move is to leave the orifice barely finger tight...

    Pumping from mash tun cooler

My Christmas present came in the mail today, a March 809:ban: I have a single tier setup with a cooler MLT, just don't have the funds yet to convert another keg to a MLT. I know it is possible to pump from the MLT to the BK, but how do I tell the level of wort left in the cooler to try and avoid...

    Cloudy Wort

Thanks for the quick replies. I usually rack into a corny after primary fermentation, but I might put this one into secondary for about a week and then cold crash; hopefully that will remove all the particles. Anyone know what that stuff actually is? I know I have seen material similar to it...

    Cloudy Wort

I made my 4th all grain beer yesterday; Jamils Janet's Brown. I mashed at 154 for an hour and vorlaufed over 1 gallon for both runnings. There were no grain particles going into the boil kettle, but the wort was really cloudy, it almost looked like bits of chunky flour floating about. This is...

First Time Brewer, my story and a question!

Congrats on your first beer, that's awesome :mug: I usually leave my beers in primary for 2 weeks. I like to make sure my final gravity stays constant, or close to it, for at least 3 days. By giving the yeast a few more days in primary, it gives them time to clean up after themselves and then...
