Yeast starter question about what to pitch...

so you think pitching the whole slurry of 1.6L should be okay? For a heady IPA I don't think it should matter that much as if it was a very light beer... I have just been getting some sweetish beers that have had higher OG's and i think it was due to just pitching one Wyeast pack straight into...

Yeast starter question about what to pitch...

I am brewing up a fairly big IPA tomorrow OG should be around 1.070ish... I am currently making a 1600ml starter of Wyeast 1056 with 160grams of LME... my question and forgive me if its a total noob question is after the fermentation gets going in my starter, do I pitch the entire contents of...

Pliny the Elder extract kit help

something like this works just fine... http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004NG9E1I/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20 I just make sure to break the wood out of the middle since you don't want that boiling away in your beer...

Pliny the Elder extract kit help

    1) 2-3 gallons is fine for your steep, I personally just steep in the full boil amount and some people say thats bad because the pH is off yada yada, I find it still makes yummy beer. 2) Irish moss is fine, whirflock tabs seem to give me the same results so maybe someone else can chime in...

    1.070-1.030 after 16 days...

It was a extract kit... i steeped the grains in 152 degree water... I will try giving the batch a swirl and giving it a few more days... I also used 9 lbs of LME and some sugar to get the OG up, which was called for... Will keep you posted. Thanks!

    when to bottle?

How long did your Belgain ale sit in the primary? If you waited for the bubbles to slow to 1 bubble per minute before transfering to the secondary then i dont see why for the super long fermentation.... Did you happen to syphon a lot of the yeast cake from the primary into the secondary.... that...

Sweet Smelling after transfer to secondary

yeah it tasted a little sweet.... nothing rediculous though, I'll drink it. Another thing that happened was it took a WHILE to get a full boil going even though I was using a 3 gal pot.... I'm talking about 40 minutes so could that have an effect on the outcome? causing it to be more sweet?

Sweet Smelling after transfer to secondary

So my irish red has been in the primary for about a week, no airlock activity, i transfered it over to the carboy and the beer is smelling really really sweet. Should I have left it in the primary for longer... Should I re-pitch some yeast. The FG when I transfered was 1.014 which is fine...

    Re-do or leave it be

Yeah I was the exact same way my first brew... I woke up the next morning to find no airlock activity, I thought something was seriously wrong, I freaked out and posted tons of questions on HBT... delayed fermentaion, everything went smooth. Just relax and have a brew.

    How to?

Bleed the pressure relase valve and pour a beer, if its carbonated then just set your reg. down to 2-4 to get a nice steady flow of beer. If I'm having some people over ill just leave the regulator set at 3 for the night so it pours nice, no foam. Then if I dont drink too much homebrew and...

    Crazy Question

I may get shunned from the brewing community for asking this but here it goes... Currently I have 3 batches going, 2 are in the 2ndary, one has been in the 2ndary for over 2 weeks now, zero airlock activity. I put that one in the fridge its been cold fermenting for over 4 days. I brewed...

    Cold conditioning

If im going to force carbonate tomorrow or thursday, then I guess it wouldnt hurt to get the beer cold am I right? There is zero yeast activity now, no little bubbles that were once present so there shouldnt be any harm. correct me if im wrong

    Cold conditioning

My Belgain has been about two weeks in the 2ndary now, its looking really nice and tasting even better... Should I throw the carboy in the fridge for a few days while i wait for my kegs to come? Is there any harm in dropping the temp for a few days?
