    Opps.. there goes my malt^&*%$#

Ok, so I was really in the mood to brew a batch today and this happens. I typically warm up my malt extract in a pot of warm water, while it's in it's container, because it's easier to pour. Well, this new partial kit I bought has the malt in a plastic bag not a container. Long story short...

    No Carbonation in capped bottles

If there is not a flavor difference in your capped bottles and your flip-tops, I would say its a matter of science. A flip-top releases the pressure all at once and air is forced into the top of the bottle's neck, which make a big popping sound, but when opening a capped bottle, your releasing...

    Weizenbier go BOOOM!

Yea, I left the lid loosely covering the bucket. Didn't think I was going to have much of a problem. Thanks guys.

    Straining wort before fermentation

I leave it in. The last 2 to 5 minutes of your boil you're adding aroma hops. It won't hurt anything to leave it in, but it may not give you the aroma you want. That's my two cents.

    Weizenbier go BOOOM!

I made a batch of Brewer's Best Weinzenbier yesterday and add 2 lbs of mashed up strawberries to make a Strawberry Wheat. It blew up this morning. My very first homemade bomb. Anyway, it took me about 2 hours to get a blow off tube from the hardware store. I was unable to have an airlock in...

    Star San foam?

I recently did a batch of ale and I noticed that, when I was siphoning from the carboy to the bottling bucket, there seemed to be something on the surface as the bucket filled. It almost look like an oil-on-water type of reaction. I cleaned the bottling bucket prior with SanStar and was...

    Flat beer.

I'm waiting for my first batch. One week, primary. One week, secondary. 3 days in the bottle. Couldn't wait. Bopped a top. Flat beer. Taste sweet. Guess I'll have to drink my Michelob Irish Red.

OK. I've seen many abbreviations thrown around on this site. I only know one and that's, "FTW" from my USMC days. So, what do they all mean?

    Electric stove brewing

I too have an electric stove. I'm new at this, but here's my two cents. Make sure you take the pot off the heated burner before adding your extract. In addition, do not place the pot on to a heated burner until the extract has dissolved. Place the pot on the burner and then turn on the...

    Label Removal Thread

    1) Fill bottles with hot tap water. 2) Place in large cooler or plastic tub. 3) Add 1/2 wall paper remover. 4) Fill the container to the rim of the bottles with hot tap water and let soak for 10 minutes. 5) Most labels will peel off easily and others will come off when scrubbed with a...
