Six year old homebrew... not terrible

2009, so 7 years old and counting - 10 long-necks of my RIS left from a total batch of 26 still sitting in the cellar, and one in the fridge chilling down for sunday evening. As it's matured it has married together well, a long way from the 3 pronged attack of nose, flavour, alcohol, to a...

    American IPA All Amarillo IPA

When I have a worry that I'm making some bombs, I bottle in plastic PET bottles from the local HBS. When firm they are carbed, when firmer it's time to drink a bit faster!! Enjoying the first of my new run of single hop APA's - I imported several hops in from the USA. Tonight it's all...

    Summer Beer suggestions

G'day Just entering the sunny season down here in Australia :ban: , and the mind turns to thoughts of sitting on the deck in early evening sun, enjoying a few cold brews. With the vast majority of people on here now leaving summer, do any of you have suggestions as to a decent extract +/-...

    Must have beers from UK?

Sitting in Australia, watching England try their hardest to lose the second test to the Aussies (the "world series" of cricket, if you like...), and I'm bemoaning the fact that since I moved down under I can't drink the beers I used to... What would I have someone bring here for me? Shepherd...

    Good pubs in London?

Every time I head back home, I always head to Covent Garden - plenty of nice pubs with decent pints, a real hive of activity, lots to see and do for the discerning drinker and pregnant alike, and some really good restaurants too. It is also very easy walking to the Strand, Admiralty House...

    Brewing Under the Sun

Consumed a fair few pints of a great beer in New Zealand a few weeks back, call "Sassy Red". Would that need to be brewed outside in the sun?

    Lesson Learned (Learnt!)

Update to the o/p - I made a batch of Cooper's "European Lager" back in september, left it 'til december to drink and it tasted like alcoholic water. Good for drunking, bad for enjoying. So they entire batch was put aside, forgotten about, and rediscovered last week when moving house. Popped...

    snake bites

Being that once drunk limey soccer hoodlum sitting in the corner drinking snakebite, I can confirm that it was only ever made with Cider and Lager. Not entirely sure what was going on down south with the Guinness and Cider, but those soft southerners are well known for being, well, strange...

    Lesson Learned (Learnt!)

Throw 2 or 3 in the back of the cupboard and forget - buy a 6 pack of whatever to replace. Believe me you'll be blown away. :ban:

    Lesson Learned (Learnt!)

Sorry, I was looking at the earnest face of the video... Seriously it blew me away how good it was. To compound my embarrassment, my second brew I handed out to a couple of mates at work, one who is not a big drinker. I thought he was extracting the urine when he said it was one of the best...

Fair play Rev, sarcasm is funny!

    Lesson Learned (Learnt!)

Started extract + grain homebrewing 8 months ago - 2 days ago I found a bottle of my first brew, a K&K English Bitter, in the back of the cupboard. Popped it in the fridge and tonight opened it up. Totally blown away, tasted nothing like the "port" fortified wine flavour that this brew had...

    Spitfire

Only 10 days in the bottle – have just opened a “taster” and it’s superb! Loosely based on a Shepherd Neame “Spitfire” English Ale extract recipe I picked up: 3 litres tap water 3kg Light Malt (LME) 500g Crystal Malt 250g Wheat Spray Malt (DME) 250g Flaked Barley 25g Ringwood Hops 30g...

    Advice on my next brew?

Little Creatures Pale Ale clone - just starting one myself today. Having drunk the real think (on tap and bottled), I'm really hoping it's similar. That'll be a win! Having made 10 extract brews since beginning, not really following any recipe, I've decided to do a run of clone recipes to...

    Bottle bombs, again!!

Checked again - seems to work: Ale brewed at 22oC = 0.81 residual volumes of CO2 I weighed the carb drop - 4g - which I presumed was 4g of glucose (this may be where I'm going wrong...) 4g Dextrose / Glucose in a 330ml bottle with that residual CO2 gives a final volume of CO2 of 3.88...

    Bottle bombs, again!!

Newb here again... Am I to expect bottle bombs from the following (unfortunately true) scenario? Bottled a batch about 4 weeks ago into glass bottles, used Cooper's Carb drops. Temp on bottling was around the 22oC mark, giving me a residual CO2 of 0.81 volumes. Left for 2 weeks in the...

    Transferring for Bulk Priming

Tried the bulk priming for the first time today with the Badger Best - we'll see how it goes. Transferred to secondary a couple of weeks ago, and then into bottling bucket today with the cane sugar. Wow that secondary really clears the beer up something! Looking forwards to aesthetically...

Why do I keep making bottle bombs?

Tried my hand at bulk priming for the first time today - Traditional British Bitter - having used coopers carb drops before. Beer was in primary for 10 days, secondary for 14. Sequential gravity were stable at 1012 throughout the secondary. Temp at bottling was 24oC (room temp, it's early...

My first time using a yeast cake

Newb here - this thread makes for interesting reading. Moved the latest brew (a Hall & Woodhouse "Badger Best Bitter", England) to secondary today, and in a moment of weakness decided to cook up another brew (unhopped liquid extract + sprayed malt + crystal + flaked barley + hops, hoping for a...
