My friend is heading to London tomorrow. What are some "must haves" that can be brought back? Thanks in advance.

A substantial hangover?

More helpfully, all the best stuff (i.e. cask ale) obviously can't be brought back. Best bet is to visit a large supermarket or off license (equiv of liquor store) and take a look at what they have in bottles. Grab anything that you haven't seen on import and looks interesting - there's little point bringing back Fuller's ESB for instance, even though it might be the most obvious 'must have' London beer. Other Fuller's brands might be good, or Young's. Check the UK versions of their websites to see what's available.

And I don't think you can bring back cricket - they're using it at the moment.

Caffrey's.

To be honest most of the other stuff can be picked up at Bevmo. You should check their website/ local store before bringing a bunch of stuff back.

Young's Special London Ale. Its wonderful - hard to get this side of the pond though!

WTF!? Have you ever been there? MOST of it can be bought in the US?

I am truly lost for words.

Sitting in Australia, watching England try their hardest to lose the second test to the Aussies (the "world series" of cricket, if you like...), and I'm bemoaning the fact that since I moved down under I can't drink the beers I used to...

What would I have someone bring here for me?

Shepherd Neame - Spitfire especially
Hall & Woodhouse - any, but Badger Best, Tanglefoot, Golden Harvest for sure
Fullers - London Pride
Wadsworths - 6X

All available in bottles.

If I had to pick one? As many bottles of 6X as you can.

Oh, Australia just lost another Wicket - bring it on!

I would love to have some nice beer from the UK, even if you can buy it here. The boat rides over do bad things to beer.

Obviously it depends on what styles you like but I would recommend anything from Brewdog or Harviestouns Old Engine Oil/Ola Dubh Ale.

Yes, I am British. And although currently live in L.A, travel back to the UK frequently. I find my local store stocks all the various Fullers London Pride, Strongbow cider etc and they taste just the same. (just the same as purchasing in Tesco's or somewhere like that and flying back with it). Obviously nothing tastes like the real thing served in a pub.

I'm British too. You are not trying hard enough. ;) Most pubs will fill a growler for you. You can take back anything they have on draught. I wouldn't bother any more with the bottled stuff.

I thought this one was interesting and worth bringing back. It's unique in that it's an oak aged beer from Scotland, but I saw it in Tesco, Waitrose, etc. in England. Just get one in it's own little box because beer in an exposed clear bottle would probably end up skunky.
