New Zealand Cold IPA / leftover hops

Looks like a great recipe to me. The only thing I might consider is mixing the motueka and rakau, doing a charge ot 20 mins and the rest at flameout with .25g of the nectaron and the final charge of nectaron as a steep at <80C. But just because that's the way I'd do it doesn't mean it's a better...

Ugh. Some how I managed to add 0.75 lbs acid malt, not 0.75 oz. What is this going to do to my milk stout

It's a bit late, but the maltsters say can use up to 10% in a mash to get a "sourish" beer. Think Guinness; they're said to add soured beer back to the wort and this contributes to it's unique flavour. Also, the sweetener (I don't know how sweet oat milk is) will help balance the sourness. (I...

    PPM Calculations

You're right, it's a minefeld. One supplier (Braumarkt) sells "pearls" at 94-97% pure (Im not sure whether they mean 94-97% of calcium chloride dihydrate with some neutral adulterant or anhydrous with some small degree of hydration) and another (Malt Miller) specifies the dihydrate. I've got the...

    PPM Calculations

    That's what I thought and that's why I posted. Calcium Chloride CaCl(2) = 110.984 g/mol Would be better as CaCl2.2H20 = 111+36 = 147 g/mol It makes around 1/3 difference to the salt addition.

    PPM Calculations

I know this is old, but I was using the OPs data for my own calculations. Had a right head-scratcher with the CaCl2 caalculation as it didn't seem to tie in with other people's figures while the other calculations work fine. It turns out that the CaCl2 commonly bought over here is the dihydrate...

English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

I've never used Weyermann base malts, but I quite like Bestmalz, pilsner, heidelburg and Red-x. Never really tried to use a pilsner in an English style beer. Irish malt is OK and HBC have 25% off all their malts at the moment. Xx

Nope. In pints. But there are pints and there are pints and that can be confusing. I'm thinking of moving over to Eriks!

You say that, CC, but what would young boys be playing with today if William hadn't brought them conkers?. (Worthy of Philomena Cunk, wise woman of Mercia, that one, I thought). I wonder how well this "banter" works on the international stage. I was astonished to find that my kiné, who's never...

A missed opportunity, Erik. This soon to be legendary measure should be the minimum volume of beer that requires two hands to lift it ie, it can't be lifted with only one hand. Thus you could have the "regulars'" Erik, the "wife and girlfriend's" Erik, the "boy's" Erik etc.

You do know, of course that the standard measure for beer in the UK is the PINT, and that there are 20 fluid ounces in a pint rather than 16. Your bomber glasses sound perfect for getting a full pint with a head on top. (1 pint is 568 ml)

California lager yeast fermenting too high

MJ-M54 is one of my goto yeasts- THE goto yeast for a GPA. On the other hand, I can't get on with their M42, more often than not it makes the beer stink- that usually conditions out after a few months, but I don't risk it any more. It;s strange the way people have different experiences of...

    Flavorful Beer for Women?

Then this is the beer for her. It's a wit with loads of strawberry Purée. I've got a recipe for it somewhere and it is quite extraordinary. A million miles from adding strawberry flavouring to a beer. https://www.fruli.be/fruli#tasting-notessection

English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

Hey, I was only joking. I like a bit of headspace too, for a nice head and some aroma to develop. ( I prefer a hefeweizen glass for most beers including bitter). Unless, I'm paying for a full glass, of course.

I do, and you're right. But it depends on the exchange rate. I get my income (not a lot, I hasten to add) in both GBP and EUR so I choose whichever is the more advantageous. I think I might have actually saved 99 centimes on this deal.

English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

Hmmm. I'm two minds about that one. On the one hand, it looks gorgeous. I can almost taste it from here. But on the other hand it's a desperately short measure! I think I'd have to raise an eyebrow in the general direction of the bar-tender! :ghostly:

English Ales - What's your favorite recipe?

Hook head lager malt is lovely stuff and gives me at least 10% (probably nearer 15%) more extraction than any of the Pilsner malts I use. Nice flavour, too. The worst for extract, at least in recent times, is Castle 2-RW. So a recipe made for one and using the other can be quite a long way out...

Welcome @Fl3tch . If said family members are old enough to voice an opinion, then it's high time they flew the nest and set up their own breweries. And at their own expense- bIoody freeloaders!! (Does that help?)
