    Dortmunder Gold

I was wanting to try to clone Great Lakes Dortmunder Gold. I see from their website that they use Mt Hood and Casacade. If anybody is familiar with this lager, maybe share your thoughts on when to casacade and how much? I have only been brewing for a month so I am not familiar with Cascade as...

    Hop Taste Testing

Does the steeping time depend upon what types of hops you are testing, like for lager, IPAs, stouts, etc?

    Testing Hops

So I am really new to brewing, 1 batch. I started with the purpose of learning all the flavors. I am not really interested in brewing clones. I love getting into the weeds on things. I have brewed one batch and want to learn the flavors of all kinds of different hops. I have an all in one...

    Hello from Cleveland

Thanks Mike, I have only brewed the one all grain last Friday. I was pretty nervous because everybody said to start with extract. I think that must be from holding temperature on a boiling pot without a thermostat. Honestly, that Grainfather takes all the guess work out of it. A monkey could...

    First ever brew

Is there a benefit to sparging vs no sparge. I put sprge water in an igloo, in hindsight it seems I could have just left all 7.5 gallons of water in the kettle. It would have been easier.

    First ever brew

Hello all, I just did my first ever brew. It was on a Grainfather G40. It was a red Irish ale from northern, should be ready just in time for St. Patty's. Very excited. Just a few questions. 1)G40 is an all in one. When I lifted the basket all the water drained out in 30 seconds...

    First Brew

I am doing my first brew and have read a little about water, the spring water i use sends out a report every year. It does not have HCO3, that seem to have something to do with PH. Can someone look at the report tell me if its possible listed under something else. BTW I am brewing an irish...

    Grainfather G40 Brew day

Does anyone have a G40? Curious how fast you can brew on these bad boys , set up on 220v with 15 amps. It has to warm up pretty fast. Just curious how long your brew day is?

    Starter yeast question

Thanks, yes you found the right one. I will be pitching right in. Does it hurt to use a starter, I had bought flask and plate, so wouldn't mind just learning to do it, just dont want to over do it. Thanks for all your reponses.

Hansa has some great beers. Plus they are served in giant glass mugs and the owner will drink with you all day at the bar.
