Emptied my first keg. Line and tap cleaning?

I use a three 2 liter bottle method with carbonation cap and piece of Eva tubing long enough to reach the bottom; one with PBW, one with StarSan, one with carbonated water. Pressurized with co2, connect to ball lock disconnect and serve one of each, in that order. That works for me. I use a...

How many pounds of coffee roasted in 2023?

I don't keep a journal of my roasts, I roast 12 oz at a time and roast once or twice a week, sometimes three times, every week. So ~ 50lb a year. I roast mostly Africans, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, plus Guatemala, Colombia. I buy from Sweet Maria's in Oakland, also buy their blends at times.

Fermzilla Gen 3.0 doing away with the dreaded collection jar

Wi went through all the gyrations, eliminated the butterfly valve, but trying to dump the trub out the bottom was getting a lot of beer so now I’ve upgraded to the Fermzilla (a step at a time) and today is my first brew since the change. And I bought the hop bong too.

    Passion fruit-driven IPA

I’m VERY interested in a proven passion fruit IPA recipe, anxious to hear how it turns out, the basic specs sound good for what I want to brew. I have a passion fruit vine in my back yard and just finished processing/juicing a second harvest, now I have 8 pound of juice. Had a birthday party...

Fermzilla Gen 3.0 doing away with the dreaded collection jar

Too bad you can't order from Kegland, Morebeer, and William's, kind of limits your options. So I you have the Fermzilla 3.0 you have the smaller 2" - 2" butterfly valve. I had the same thing and bit the bullet andd bought the 3" - 2" butterfly the Fermzilla 3.2 uses and the 3" - 1.5" SS reducing...

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

Yea, with the Behmor you have pretty decent control. I've f*ucked a few times by leaving it unattended. I always set a timer on my watch for 14 minutes from start then stay with it to cooling. I go a little into second crack, but I open the door with the mini-shopvac to collect chaff and suck...

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

OK so that's where I started with a heat gun and SS water bowel. IMO the Behmor, I think it's a 2200 now but I bought the 1600, then upgraded to 1600 Plus I've had it for years had to fix it a couple times but support is really good. Company is in Reno, NV I think. I use mine a couple times a...

☕ Coffee ☕: Ingredients, Roasting, Grinding, Brewing, and Tasting

What roaster do you use? I also have been buying greens from Sweet Maria’s for years, I’m in Alameda, CA so they are local to me. Been getting several 92 point Ethiopias lately, also like Guatemala, Kenya, Rwanda. I have a Behmor I think it’s a very good roaster.

Fermzilla Gen 3.0 doing away with the dreaded collection jar

Well several things I hate and a few I like. I had a Fermzilla 2.0 for over a year, sometimes the collection jar is nearly impossible to get off. I used a bunch of strategies to help; 1. put skateboard grip tape on the jar so the strap wrench didn't slip, 2. use keg lube on the o-ring and the...

Fermzilla Gen 3.0 doing away with the dreaded collection jar

To add to my previous post, I bought most of the items from William's Brewing but they didn't stock the 3" - 3" butterfly valve or the three piece 3" tri-clamp, which I had to buy from Morebeer. So with luck I'll never have to use the collection jar ever again! Yea!

Fermzilla Gen 3.0 doing away with the dreaded collection jar

I bought a Fermzilla 3.0 on sale, should have bought the Gen 3.2 and paid full price as now I'm spending enough to make up the difference. The Gen 3.0 has a 3" - 2" butterfly valve. Now I've decided to do away with the dreaded collection jar. But to do so I need to buy the 3" - 3" butterfly...

    Rapt pill OG reading accuracy

I agree with using the Pill for relative changes in gravity, and I compare to EasyDens, it is very accurate IMO. Current batch EasyDens = 1.025, Pill = 1.024, that’s close enough for me. My big complaint with the Pill is temperature. My temp controller thermowell will show steady 68 degrees (f)...

White Labs WLP001 Dry Yeast Coming Soon

I've used WLP001 liquid and it worked well, more recently I've used many different Lallemand, Fermentis dry CellarScience with equally good results. Cool that they released a dry version but still pricy when you can get some of the ones I mentioned for $5 or 3 for $10.

American IPA The New West Coast IPA

I saved this to my Brewfather account and will give it a try. I've done a bunch of SMaSH IPAs lately Pilsner malt and either Mosaic, Citra or others.

How many pounds of coffee roasted in 2023?

I don't keep track of # of lbs roasted. I usually roast 12 oz a couple times a week. I roast with a Behmor 1600+, 12 ounces is a practical limit for that roaster. I'm partial to African varieties mostly Ethiopia, Kenya. some Colombia and Guatemala. I buy from Sweet Maria's in Oakland, CA...
