    UK Brewers.

I'm a bit late to the party mate but hi from another Brit. I'm hoping being among all these great American brewers will let a little magic rub off on me. I hope you're brews over the last month have gone well mate. Cheers! :mug:

    How did you find us?

Just got back into homebrew (pretty much total novice) and was ignored on a rival homebrew forum (not naming names). Was welcomed here right away. As many of you here are in the USA and you guys have pioneered some of my favourite Beer styles I hold all the advice here in very high regard!

How often do pressure barrels vent excess pressure and hiss? (& can they vent from the centre?)

I've realised you folks across the pond might not use what we call pressure barrels. That, or you would probably call them a plastic keg? Something like this: Home Brew Pressure Barrel - 25 litres: Amazon.co.uk: Kitchen & Home No airlock as it's in secondary fermentation, but the valve looks...

    Mold in Sanitizer

Just to avoid any Brits getting confused, I'm pretty sure the UK 'easyclean' is a direct starsan clone (starsan is expensive here).

    Tool to measure abv?

It may not be accurate enough for your purposes but could you use a reliable Brix meter/refractometer and convert the result?

How often do pressure barrels vent excess pressure and hiss? (& can they vent from the centre?)

I'm guessing this is one of those beginner questions that people dread answering. I've just got back into basic brewing and my last two Beer kits (evil dog and JIPA) have both been quite 'hissy' in second fermentation. Gas is venting from the top of the cap, not the valve around the side...

How badly did I mess up? (added Malt Extract late and extra volume. MJ JIPA kit)

Ouch! Yeah I'm honestly playing with fire in this location myself. Not had anything this vigorous before so really do have to think about migrating. Definately upgrading fermenters soon, also. Spigots would be good. Step by step I'll get there!

How badly did I mess up? (added Malt Extract late and extra volume. MJ JIPA kit)

Thanks for the advice. I should have listened right away! I thought the airlock was just about handling it and left it over night, then came down this morning to find it totally overwhelmed with a fair bit of a mess over the fermenter lid. Nothing too bad thankfully but I should have listened...

How badly did I mess up? (added Malt Extract late and extra volume. MJ JIPA kit)

Thanks for the welcome. I've been lurking for a while. I'm feeling doubly embarassed now as this is just a standard Mangrove Jacks Juicy IPA kit. Standard procedures for a kit. Sterilise, add 23'C water, yeast and cover w/airlock in a water bath with aquarium heater. I just somehow realised I...

How badly did I mess up? (added Malt Extract late and extra volume. MJ JIPA kit)

Hi all, I'm sure I won't be the first person who's initial post is about a brewing blunder. I've only done a handful of brews and all have gone quite well. Today, however, I made the mistake of completely forgetting to add the liquid malt extract before pitching the yeast. Luckily I caught...
