Keeping ph in check during mash

I definitely need to get a quality meter. To help justify the cost would using it to also check the swimming pool pH hurt it? It is a salt water pool if that matters. Would it shorten the probe life? Pool pH is in the 7.5 - 8 range before adjustments. Would calibration be different based on the...

    Peanut Butter & Jelly Beer

@fluketamer do you have a suggestion as to how much to use? I am planning a chocolate peanut butter coconut stout and picked up all three brewers best at LHBS.

    Need help deciding between fermenters

My BIL got this one for Christmas and really likes it. His beer has improved with it. Only 6 psi though. Can pressure transfer but not really spund. https://www.deltabrewingsystems.com/collections/fermentation/products/the-fermtank-8-gallon-tri-clamp

    MoreBeer Conical

You only need 1-2 PSI to purge kegs. I still use my SS Brewbucket and it can do that.

The Best Hazy IPAs Of The Year - According To Top Beer Competitions

Cigar City used to be a great place to go. They had several great beers besides Jai Alai. The brewery has been sold several times and last year they laid off the brewers in Tampa and moving main brewery to North Carolina now. I wonder if they have changed the recipe to make it more profitable. I...

    Tincture Failures

Reading this over breakfast. Mmmm bacon. I now must brew a bacon beer. Does the bacon fat kill the head of the beer?

    New Brewer in Orlando, FL

While I have been there several times I didn’t buy grains. I am not local there but my BIL is. He shops there and thinks the prices are good. You can probably email from website and ask for a grain sheet/price list. He special orders yeasts, I have done that and really it is the only way I am...

American IPA The New West Coast IPA

I haven’t tried biofine yet. Is it better than gelatin? Do you drop the temp before dry hop or do you dry hop warm? Thanks!

American IPA The New West Coast IPA

Looks awesome. Did you fine with gelatin? What yeast and what temperature did you ferment at?

    Frozen yeast bank procedure

I will see what the dates are on the pouches and if they are not super fresh I will make at least a small starter before banking.

    Frozen yeast bank procedure

Thanks Tony B and Bassman2003, very understandable instructions. I have 3 liquid strains on order to start my yeast bank. One difference I see in your methods is making a starter first or just using the fresh yeast from the container. I was thinking of doing the latter. Making perhaps 5 tubes of...

Switching to a smaller batch size?

I went from 5 gallons to 3.5 as well. The points about reduced heating and cooling times are very true. That alone cuts 45 min to an hour. One other benefit for me is I use the grocery store 5 gallon RO machine. All I need is one 5 gallon bottle to make 3.5 gallons with BIAB. Best part of moving...

4mm Eva Barrier for blow off tube?

Thanks @Climb and @Brushwood Brewing for the hope, maybe I will get lucky too! First time using Apex San Diego yeast. It is 22 hours post pitch and first signs of activity. I really hate slow starting yeast... I was worried I had a leak

4mm Eva Barrier for blow off tube?

I have been fermenting similar batches in kegs for awhile without krausen coming out. I had clear 5/16" vinyl tubing so I should have seen it. Well, this batch is going to go with the 4mm since I trashed all the old tubing. Hopefully any mess will be confined to the chest freezer. I think I will...
