    belgian fermentation

I've been ordered by SWMBO to ferment belgians in a room we don't use much because of the smell.

OK to use carboy as primary with wheat beer?

I've got a 5g batch of Belgian Wit in a 6.5 BB right now. Nothing wrong with it.

I put my wort on a yeast cake and I'm lovin it

Yes, you must have a plan when re-using the cake. Also, after a very large beer or many re-uses of the same yeast it is not advised as the yeast have been strained.

I put my wort on a yeast cake and I'm lovin it

I do that for my very large OG beers. It's the best "Starter" out there and it yield's 5g of homebrew to boot!

    Why no spigot on primary?

I use a Better Bottle with spigot for a primary and have had no problems. In fact its absolutely great at pulling every last drop of beer out with no trub :)

My BlowOff tube needs a BlowOff Tube

My beers always seem to do that too :(. My blowoff catcher is in my brewpot as I speak for a 1.1 OG Stout. I'm predicting a nice mess when I come home from work today.

    Looks great :)

I Dont get it...please explain to me how..

Next time you should add the water AFTER dumping the wort into your primary. You'll never have too much again :)

    Brewmasters Warehouse

Ed has been fantastic with my order. I bought the wrong extract and he's swapping out for me no questions asked. Another satisfied guy here. -Mike

Always on tap at your house?

No specific recipe. But my left tap always has a stout or porter and my right tap always has an IPA or pale ale. Anything different is in the 3rd keg and comes out of the picnic tap.

Bottle today, pitch on cake tomorrow

Never done it myself, but a local from my brew club says he always does it and turns racking day into brewing day. He throws his wort right over the cake.

    It's Friday...who's brewing this weekend?

Just this morning I brewed a Pale Ale for a competition at the end of March.

Cleaning Up? (something a bit different)

Better bottles here. Soak with PBW and warm water for 30-60 minutes. Swish around on the tennis ball. Empty the bottle and store upside down until next use :)

    rubber seal fell in fermenter

Guilty. You'll find it in the yeast cake when you're cleaning up.

    Show us your Kegerator

Not very. I took SWMBO to Plum Island for our anniversary last year. Then we went up to Portsmouth for dinner and drinks on Sat. night.

How to measure gravity in a Carboy?

You'd love my solution, but don't try yourself. I taped some string to my hydro and dropped it in. This worked great for about 4 batches. Then one day while walking it across the kitchen my tape let go and the hydro went soaring to her death on the wood floor. I have since bought a thief...

    McMaster-Carr FTW.

    I love great service!

The stain is called "Polyshades" and has poly in it. Then I threw 2 coats of spar urethane over that for additional protection.

Using 1/4" braided line for beer line - ok?

I'm always hearing about issues with 1/4" ID line. I run 5' of 1/4" ID line to each of my 2 taps and have never had foaming problems. In fact I get perfect pours 100% of the time. -Mike
