    Online Class

I figured I would post this up here for anyone interested. My alma mater is hosting a virtual hops class through a department of agriculture grant. Cost is 100$. https://www.shipnews.org/2020/12/14/ship-builds-local-support-for-hops-production-through-new-agriculture-grant/

    Looking to get past beginner

So I have been slowly working my way through the beer and wine making process. I started several years back with my father in law making blueberry wine. I have been making very drinkable fruit wine that turns out in under a year. Not hard to sit and figure out what worked and what doesn’t. Fast...

    Foam from corny keg......

Funny you say that. Previous batches I gently set the racking can onto the yeast cake. This time I made sure I went a little bigger on my end wart goal, and when I racked measured to prevent the racking cane from landing in the cake. Might have a small amount of yeast, but should not be enough...

    Foam from corny keg......

Took apart the diptubes, ultimately determined the is a bunch of sediment clogging the outpost. Plan to cut off 1/2-1’’ off the bottom of the dip tube. I bought used kegs and fully reconditioned them, but the dip tubes on them are touching the bottom.

    Foam from corny keg......

It’s possible. Looking at the keg in the morning. Will keep an eye out for that.

    Foam from corny keg......

So I have a keg of an IPA on tap right now. It runs with a 3 way manifold for 2 other kegs. Currently, they are cheap taps, but that’s besides the point. A few days ago I tried to pour an IPA and it came out straight foam. I troubleshooted. Fully disassembled the tap and cleaned it. (The other...

    Oatmeal Stout with 1099

So I pulled off 2 L of wort, 1.058 and added the smack pack to it. I pitched the starter into 65F at around 30 hrs. 65 x 2 days 67x2 days 69 since. Checked SG on day 4 and it was at 1.018 which was pretty Much right where the recipe said it would finish at. Today is day 9, I plan on...

    Oatmeal Stout with 1099

I dont have any DME handy. Would it be reasonable to take 2L of the wort and make a starter with it, pitch it in 24-36 hrs?

    Oatmeal Stout with 1099

So what your saying is make a starter? The "smack-pack" says 100 billion cells, but there's so much controversy in regards to whether you or not you need to make a starter off them.

    Oatmeal Stout with 1099

Im going to be brewing an oatmeal stout (OG 1.059)later today. I'm not familar with 1099 Whitebread yeast. Im looking for a good fermentation temerature schedule. I was thinking something like this: Pitch at 65 and hold for 3 days Increase to 68 over 4-5 days Increase to 72 over the next 3-5...

    Wlp001

Great advice, thank you. Also in regards to user error, there probably is some with the hydrometer.

No, it was the Lunar Shock From morebeer. It’s a blue moon type clone. I’m going to have to take a look at the SG again when I get home, cause something doesn’t add up for me based on the comments.

There so many different ways, trying to figure out what works for me. So your process would be rack beermoff of yeast cake. Swirl up contents and Pour right into a cleaned/sterilized Mason jar? Attempt to pour the suspended off any traub/floculated yeast?

My hydrometer is calibrated, checked that a few brews back. Temp was 71F and the correction was nominal. Taste wise, not sure I have developed my palate to know what a 1.001 is supposed to taste like, never had a beer ferment to that level. Hopefully I have a better idea of what this will...

    Wlp001

this is my first experience with WLP001. From their website it list attenuation at 75-80%. Temp range 63ish-72 (please correct me if I’m wrong). So I did a recipe kit AG, SG 1.046 when I pitch, 2L starter. That was 7 days ago. I did 63F at pitch, 65F 24 hrs later, followed by 2F increase...

Lots of excellent dialogue her crew. Truely appreciate all of the content.

I used a hydrometer and corrected it for temperature.

What are you using to warm it up. My basement doesn’t get much over 65-67 and I’d rather not have to shuffle stuff upstairs.

    Short on the FG

It’s definitely on the sweeter side. Not overwhelming like others I have had. Very drinkable. Much more coffee flavor than I wanted, but I do love coffee

    Short on the FG

Freezer was at room temp when I added the carboy. Valid point however and duly noted. Now that I think about it, I think I started that in a plastic bucket.
