Small batch brewing in Grainfather G30 V3

I should have mentioned in last post; I was going with 2.75 gal batches in 2024, but my fermenter losses sometimes prevented me from hitting 2.5 gal all the time. Bumping it up to 3 gal eliminated that problem

Small batch brewing in Grainfather G30 V3

Hello ElProducto! Been away from the forum for a few days. For my use, I created a 3 gal equipment profile in Grainfather app that matches up with my Brewfather 3 gal profile. When I import my recipe from Brewfather, it’s pretty easy. I make very few adjustments. I usually just check...

Small batch brewing in Grainfather G30 V3

I own the GF G-30 v3, and I brew small batches exclusively. By small batch I am talking about a batch size of 2.75 gal, which after losses leaves approx 2.35 gal of finished product, enough for one of my 2.5 gallon kegs or a case of 12 oz’rs. I create my beer recipes in Brewfather and just...

What are people brewing for the holidays?

Spices can get overpowering in these brews, especially mulling spices and Ginger. They need a little time in the bottle to mellow out. I always have a tough time with Ginger. Anyway, with the GL’s ale, you boil your ginger and cinnamon the entire boil, so it’s not as overbearing. Good Luck!

What are people brewing for the holidays?

Just read back through this thread and have to respond to this post. I’m a small batch brewer, brewing a case of beer (or 2.5gal keg) at a time, or around 3 gal batches. I started my Brew Journey with GigaWort as well, and still use it (after 6 yr) for both extract and as a HLT (sparge water...

What are people brewing for the holidays?

I not used T-58 before. But I’ve used s-04 and Nottingham before; like both, especially Notty!

What are people brewing for the holidays?

Northern Brewers Superior Ale is very close to GL ALE, if not spot on

What are people brewing for the holidays?

In the next week I’ll brew a batch of Great Lakes Christmas Ale. I usually bounce around to something different every year, but this year the Christmas Ale deserves another run!

False bottom for Anvil Foundry 6.5

I ordered this one a day or so ago, in the 11” width. It seems a lot sturdier than the ones on Amazon or elsewhere. And it’s already on its way!

False bottom for Anvil Foundry 6.5

I measured 11.5“ wide and a little under 2” high for the legs. Looks like a good size would be 11” X 2” would be good for a bag

False bottom for Anvil Foundry 6.5

Has anyone found (from Amazon or whoever) a false bottom / grille that fits in the 6.5? I’ve been putting my grain bag inside my malt pipe, but would like to do away with malt pipe and use a false bottom. Thanks!

    Anvil Foundry 6.5 threads,all things 6.5

This has been a interesting discussion since my post(#19) regarding dead space under and around the malt pipe. While I am concerned about the FACT that there is limiting mixing of the mash with all of the water, my bigger concern, and one that I have experienced, is that the smaller Diameter...

It’s not a wife’s tale; it’s called science. But whatever you want to believe…I don’t care

    Anvil Foundry 6.5 threads,all things 6.5

The difference with the 6.5 is that the ratio of dead space to batch size is very high. For example, if I want to make a 2.75 gallon batch (fermenter volume), I need a total of about 4.3 gallons for BIAB, per my profile. When I pour 4.3 gallons into the 6.5, over half of that ( ~ 2.5 gal)...

Brewfather - Brewing extracts with Specialty grains issue

Hey all - I’m trying to brew a couple year-end extract batches on Brewfather and I’m having issues with the “steeping” steps not showing up when I go to start a brew batch. When I click the brewing tab, I had hoped to see the series of steps that instruct me to heat the water to X degrees and...

    Mash Tun

I mash in a bag (MIAB) using a round igloo cooler and bag, sometimes over a false bottom (when I fly sparge), and sometimes with no false bottom (when I’m batch sparring. I have no problem maintaining mash temp. I usually start off with Strike water about 7-8 degrees warmer than my desired max...

How often do you extract brew?

I started home brewing about 5 years ago when I retired. Started out extract, moved on to AG after about a year, and starting this past month, I’ve moved back to extract. I brew 2.75g batches, and I’m not into the fancy pants beer recipes. I (and my drinking friends) cannot distinguish...

    Anvil Foundry w/Beer Smith

Back to OP’s question - I have a 6.5, not a 10, but I have not had great success with any amount of Sparge process on the 6.5, when using the Malt pipe. As an earlier post mentioned, you have to consider all the deadspace you have around and under the malt pipe when you calculate strike and...

What I did for beer today

I bought another SS Brewbucket, 7 gal, Brewmaster edition. Got it on sale at MoreBeer (probably available elsewhere), and glad to add it to my collection. I have a collection of fermenters, including other SS equipment, Fermonsters, and Speidels, and these Brewbuckets are the best in my book!
