    SS Brew Bucket Base

I don't have the mini but considered it before buying the 7 gallon brew bucket. The two possibilities I thought of had I gone with the mini were: 1. Duct tape the base on (ugly but seemed like it would work). 2. Buy a second base to have a place to set it when moving it around.

    New Grain Mill at MoreBeer

I wonder if they use bronze bushings or ball bearings? I can't tell from the pictures. If they are ball bearings the 2 roller is pretty much the same as the Cereal Killer and the 3 roller would be like a geared 3 roller Cereal Killer. Edit to add: Both mills are adjustable. Is it possible to...

Tell me more about keg hopping

When I dry hop (which is rare) I use one of those mesh tubes hanging from the tab on the keg lid. I just leave them in there until the keg kicks, sometimes up to 2 months. I've never had any off flavors from leaving them but the most I've done is 3 oz of pellets.

    Proper Ventilation

Since the Foundry is an electric system you don't need any ventilation for safety that you would for gas. Ventilation would just be for the smells so if a window or vent hood for a stove is available that should work. Another idea that might help is a portable room air purifier or UV light...

MaltZilla: new grain mill from Kegland with DIAMOND encrusted rollers

@passedpawn DEAL12 at MoreBeer is showing that it works for 10% off each on the mill and power supply. I haven't tried to order yet, I'm typically not an early adopter of new products so I'm still mulling it over. Promo code is for today only.

    Extensive Dry Hopping Experience?

I rarely dry hop but when I do I do it in the keg (in a canister hanging from the lid). I leave them in until the keg is empty, sometimes up to 2 months if I have multiple kegs on tap. Eventually the beer level is below the hops so I'm not sure exactly when there is no longer hops in contact...

Brew Bucket FTSs System questions: overkill bling?

You are correct. It really won't do anything a fridge an Inkbird couldn't (unless you get the FTSs2 which has heating). It advantage is smaller footprint but it comes at the cost of having to change ice in the cooler unless you have a glycol chiller to hook to it.

MaltZilla: new grain mill from Kegland with DIAMOND encrusted rollers

I got the Barley Crusher when I first started all grain, before I found the forum. I've gotten almost 5 years out of it but it's wearing out quickly. My goal is a motorized mill. I use a drill with the BC but i figured when i upgrade i may as well go for full convenience with a motor. I was...

MaltZilla: new grain mill from Kegland with DIAMOND encrusted rollers

MoreBeer is now showing in stock in California. Price seems pretty good compared to other motorized mill options. If they include it on the 12 Deals of Christmas I might have to consider it, my Barley Crusher has been really frustrating me lately.

    Multigrain blend of Stuff

I've never even heard of some of those grains but I can start the replies by saying that unless some of those grains are malted you'll need to either add malted barley or enzymes in order to get any conversion during the mash. Also, I'm not sure how easily a mash like that would get stuck so if...

    Moving Spike Conical Fermenter

I use sanitized 5 gallon buckets to carry it from boil kettle to fermenter and pour it in. I split the 5 gallon batch into 2 buckets just so it's lighter to carry/easier to pour than a full bucket.

    Fermenting/kegging German weiss

Switch the airlock for a blowout tube, your airlock is already getting clogged. Then it should be fine overnight. Personally I don't add priming sugar when I'm kegging but it can be done, you just have to let the keg sit out while the yeast consume the sugar before chilling to serving temp. Out...

    Stainless Steel CFC Comparisions

I went with the Kegco. I like it, although it does take me about 20-30 min to cool a 5 gallon batch. That time is acceptable to me because I'm able to dedicate the whole day to brewing (there are advantages to being single).

    Thoughts on the FTSs chiller

They do sell extensions separately that lower the coils for smaller batches. I have the FTSS for my 7 gallon Brew Bucket using a 48 quart cooler and frozen gallon jugs. How well the cooler set up will work depends on the ambient temperature where the fermenter is located, mine is in a 70 F...

    Aquarium chiller for FTSs

I just re-read your original post and a few things popped up in my mind. You said you have a small cooler and use a couple frozen water bottles. Those two factors could be upgraded, volume is your friend when swapping ice bottles. I use a 48 quart cooler filled as full as I can and still fit...

    Aquarium chiller for FTSs

You would need 2 pumps, one for the FTSs and one for the chiller. You would have 4 lines going into the cooler: one set for circulating through the FTSs and the other set to circulate through the chiller.

Grain miller, how important is it?

I have a Barley Crusher, which isn't liked much on here, although I haven't had the problems others have described. I still wouldn't recommend it purely because you can get a Cereal Killer cheaper and without the problems others have experienced. The one thing I would recommend is to look into...

    Icemaster Max 4 Glycol Chiller

Since you need the FTSs anyway the Max 4 wouldn't be the best choice in my opinion, you'd want the Icemaster 100 over the Max 4 since you don't need the pump or controller. Disclaimer: I don't have a glycol chiller, but it's on my "hopefully someday wishlist". Also, I have a really good beer...

    Yeast nutrient in starter

I use Wyeast yeast nutrient so I'm not familiar with the dosage of that brand but I put a small pinch in starters and then dose the batch to the instructions also.

    Increasing Keg Carbonation Timing

When it comes to carbonation I don't follow style guidelines, instead I opt to decide what carbonation level I like best for a particular beer. I'm currently using the "set and forget" method and let the beer carbonate for 2 weeks before hooking up the beer line. I don't judge whether I think...
