    PBLC into boiling wort Ughhh

It's this one: PBLC: Powder Beer Line Cleaner, 1/2lb bag I'm dumping. Just found lots of horror stories online with people at pubs drinking line cleaner when the staff forgot to flush the lines. This was an English Mild so I'm only out about 6 lbs of grain and 1oz Willamette. I'll just redo...

    PBLC into boiling wort Ughhh

I just put a teaspoon of PBLC into my boiling wort with about 10min to go. I didn't look at the package until after I dumped it in. I grabbed the bag thinking it was yeast nutrient. Is my 5 gallons ruined? I think I should toss it? This is PBLC stuff is like super power PBW for cleaning lines...

    Iowa Roll Call

Originally from Lamoni in Southern Iowa, now living in Seattle. Lots of great home brew shops out here on the West Coast. Graduated from Univ of Iowa in the 90's , wish I would have known about home brewing then. Still learning and having fun.

I'm going to do my first brew tomorrow!

My first brew 2.5 years ago was Brewers Best White IPA kit, turned out great and enjoyed it. My advice would be to be patient, and let the beer ferment all the way down, especially if you are bottling. Maybe 2 weeks in the fermenter minimum to burn off the diacetyl and prevent too many...

    1084 stopped at 1.024

Did you use a yeast starter? Imperial stouts need a lot more yeast than a normal batch, if you only tossed in 1 package of 1084 you'll probably be short. Also, you need to oxygenate before pitching once the wort has cooled to the proper temperate. Using the right amount of yeast and providing...

All Grain Stout used wrong grain uggh!

Update -- Stout has been in the keg for nearly 2 weeks now. I really like it. Guess I worried too much. It has a little 'sharp' edge to it at the back end of the taste, but not off-putting. I think it's going to be spot-on in another couple of weeks as the beer mellows. It is definitely...

Russian Imperial Stout partial mashening (and other stories)

Hi Bob, I also use a 5 gallon cooler for a mash tun and use extract to make up for everything. Earlier this year I made a RIS and it turned out great. I used much more grain than your recipe with like 1.15 quart per pound, and then turned to Dark LME to fill out the rest. Also -- I used a 2...

All Grain Stout used wrong grain uggh!

Hi, wondering how bad of a mistake this is. Brewed an all grain Guinness Clone yesterday, hit the mash temp perfectly, volumes, pitching temp for yeast were all great. After I pitched yeast I went back and looked at the grains I had purchased and milled at the homebrew store, and realized I...
