    Grain to water ratio

Ok, good. My assumption was that I wouldn’t have many issues with this. Especially if it’s a crushable of a beverage as I’m going for.

    Grain to water ratio

My plan is to ferment the beer, and transfer into a keg with equal parts lemonade, then chill/serve immediately. Would the beer continue to ferment with the lemonade while it’s in the keg in my cold kegerator?

    Grain to water ratio

My intention is to end up with 5 gallons of unfermented beer. I will be splitting the beer between two five gallon kegs, and adding equal parts unfermented lemonade.

    Grain to water ratio

Hey all, I know this is something that comes up often, but wanted to still post here. Will be brewing a summer shandy style beer BIAB and am going to try to make a five gallon batch of beer with a goal of 8% - 8.5% Abv and then will add five gallons of lemonade from Costco in the keg. I want to...

    High FG

13 days ago I brewed a 5 gallon BIAB stout, OG was 1.054. Below is my recipe… 7 gallons of purified water to start with 8 lbs. English Maris Otter 1 lbs. caramel 40L 1 lbs. flaked oats 0.5 lbs. roasted barley 0.5 lbs. Weyermann Carafa III 0.5 lbs. English Chocolate Malt Mashed at 152 degrees...

    Coffee/sweet/oatmeal stout

That sounds great. I might just do that instead. Thanks!

    Coffee/sweet/oatmeal stout

How would English crystal malt differ from the 40L? I’m going for a combo of flavors… sweet, coffee stout with some body/creaminess.

    Coffee/sweet/oatmeal stout

Thanks for the tips. I’ve used an old sleeping bag before and will probably use that again. I’m more interested in my recipe, if it looks alright to people who have more experience with stouts. I’m not sure if I’m adding too much roasted barley, for example.

    Coffee/sweet/oatmeal stout

Hey all, Throwing together a 5 gallon recipe based on Northern Brewer’s sweet stout recipe. I typically stick to recipes on websites but wanted to tweak their recipe a little to give more coffee notes while balancing the roasted barley with Caramel 40L, flaked oats, and lactose. I would...

    Pond pump in cold creek

Good to know! What pond pump do you have? I would rather not pay much for one. I’ve seen some that are $20-$30 but don’t want one that’s going to be ineffective.

    Pond pump in cold creek

Does anyone have a recommendation for a specific pond pump? I think it might be easier for me to get something cheap, submerse it in a large cooler I have, and fill that cooler with cold water from the creek. And then having the excess water run back into the creek.

    Pond pump in cold creek

Hey everyone, I am currently living at a home where I am unable to connect my wort chiller to a sink or hose like I’ve done in the past. There is a creek that has clean, fresh water at a nice current (in Northern Michigan). I would like to brew but want to make sure I can chill the wort in an...

    NEIPA/Citrusy/Fruity Hops to grow

Thanks! I am going to grow an additional round of centennial, cascade and chinook and am going to give cashmere a shot and see where that goes. I’m realizing it might be hard to have a wide variety of quality hops that I’m able to grow that would work well in a NEIPA, but many of those hops...

Chilling wort - outdoor winter brewing

Just moved and upgraded to a propane burner to brew outside. I live in Northern Michigan, where temps are pretty cold, and I need to figure out how I am going to chill my wort. I obviously can’t use the outdoor hose, and in my mind my current options are hooking a hose to the kitchen sink...

    NEIPA/Citrusy/Fruity Hops to grow

Looking to grow some hops that could eventually be used in a NEIPA, or fruity tasting IPA. Just started growing hops last summer and had centennial, cascade and chinook. I know I can’t get my hands on any citra, Amarillo, or mosaic to grow, but any suggestions on what I could grow that might be...

Wyeast Scottish Ale Yeast - OG = 1.087... do I need more yeast?

Just took a reading about a month after pitching. The yeast brought it down from 1.087 to 1.023, good for 8.4% Abv not including the bourbon. Fermented like crazy about 2 days after pitching. Tastes super toasty/roasty!

Wyeast Scottish Ale Yeast - OG = 1.087... do I need more yeast?

I just received the brew kit from Northern Brewer last week and brewed this today. The yeast says 2/26/20.

Wyeast Scottish Ale Yeast - OG = 1.087... do I need more yeast?

Hey everyone, Just brewed NB’s 3 gallon BIAB BBA Porter. Ended up with an OG of 1.087 for the 3 gallons I yielded. I pitched the Wyeast Scottish yeast, but am afraid that the OG is too high for this yeast and could result in a high FG. I have 2 packs of US-05 in my fridge in case of...

FG too high after 4 weeks - what do I do?

Special Pale was what the original recipe called for, but I believe I just used Pale Malt. Pretty confident the thermometer reading was accurate. It has served me well so far in my homebrewing adventures.
