    good deal?

I found a brand new 7.5 gal brew pot with burner on craig's list and paid $10. A recently married couple received it as a wedding gift and just wanted to get rid of it.

    Is it blow off time?

I just had the lid to my fermenter blow open after my 3-piece airlock became clogged from the krausen. I wish I was around to hear it. I'll be using a blow off tube next time.

    contamination concern

I brewed a beer the other day and began fermenting in a 6.5 gallon plastic bucket with a 3 piece airlock. After three days, I noticed that the airlock had been clogged and the beer blew off the top to the bucket exposing the batch to air!!!!! I've never had that problem in the past. I...

    Regulator????

I'm somewhat new to kegging my home brew. How should I be adjusting the pressure on the regulator? Should I adjust the screw until the needle reads the desired pressure without pulling the release valve, or should I focus on the reading associated when I pull the release valve and see where...

    Immersion Chiller Flow Rate

I recently built an immersion chiller 50' of 1/2" OD copper and I tested it by cooling 6.5 gallons of boiling water. It took 50 minutes to reach 70 degrees at a low flow rate of 0.3 gal/min or 1.2 liter/min. My input water temperature was 58 degrees from a garden hose faucet. My question is...

    Tap question

I inherited a kegerator from a college buddy and I just got into home brewing. I'd like to know if the tap it came with will work with corny kegs. It fits regular domestic kegs like, Miller, Bud, etc. If not, what kind of tap do I need.

    Airlock issue and activity questions

If you want to test the seal on your ale pail, you can secure the lid on the pail and place an airlock with water in it. Then, press down gently on the lid so it "oil cans" and if the seal is tight the airlock should bubble, otherwise you may have a poor seal. You should be able to do this...

    OG Question

Did you take the reading before or after you diluted your beer to 5 gallons? It will be much higher if you measured it from your 3 gallon boil before adding 2 gallons of boiled water, like most directions suggest.

    Steeping question

If you are relying on keeping the pot covered to maintain a constant temperature, then do you swirl the grain bag around or just let it sit for 30 min? Do you think opening the lid several times will lower the temp below 150?

When is beer clear? when to bottle?

I understand that you should bottle after the beer has cleared in your secondary, but how do you know when? Are you going to be able to see completely through the carboy? Can certain beers clear to a point and then your just wasting your time by letting it sit longer? I guess my question is...

smelly primary after I cleaned it?

I recently racked my beer and after cleaning my primary, it still smells like delicious beer. It's a plastic ale pail. Is my primary not clean enough? I know plastic can absorb odors, but do I need to worry about bacteria making a home on the inside of my bucket? It's only the second beer...

    Brewing with distilled water?

distilled water contains zero minerals, as it is condensed steam from boiled water. Therefore it is used in laboratories where sterilization is a concern. I think my tap water will suffice.
