60 gal wine barrel as a circulating primary fermentation vessel?

Nothing is wrong with sour. Should I be expecting lactic or brett or both? Oxidation occurs because of the extra headspace or leaking air? Im assuming the barrel is water tight so it's airtight as well Should I be ok to sanitize it with Star San?

60 gal wine barrel as a circulating primary fermentation vessel?

Good afternoon, I came across a 60 gal wine barrel in an excellent shape made from hungarian oak for $60 and I had to give it a try. My problem is, I dont have resources to fill it as an aging barrel since all my equipment is used for 5-10 gal batches. My plan is to basically make beer how My...

Hello, I've been searching for a place to order these plants, Yarrow (Achillea millefolium), Bog Myrtle (Myrica Gale), and Marsh Rosemary (Ledum palustre) but I have not been able to find them. Does anyone have a good website where we can order these types of herbs. Thanks, -D

Beer possibly contaminated with some wild bacteria, should I add campden right away?

I noticed how you said Brett, and that's exactly what Im planning on adding once the campden clears out. I had bad luck fermenting directly with brettanomyces, but excellent time adding it after primary fermentation. It seems to eat most of the byproducts and really clean up the beer. Makes a...

Beer possibly contaminated with some wild bacteria, should I add campden right away?

As I stated above, I noticed the growths when I was replacing the water filters. Anyways, my solution was to dump campden into primary right away, then a week later, I would add some yeast from a bottle fermented beer to hopefully help clear up the yeast sediment.

Beer possibly contaminated with some wild bacteria, should I add campden right away?

Hello, I made 5 gal batch of extract beer for testing, and I added some cold water from my RO filter, before i changed the membrane, and when I looked at the membrane, it looked like it had some bacteria was growing on it. So its probably already in the beer. The regular fermentation from the...

Does fermentation consume fluioride and other heavy elements found in water

Fluoride may not be as detrimental in those quantities, but it's completely pointless. The only benefit of its addition is for what, tooth decay? It doesn't need to be consumed by the body. There is plenty of it in toothpaste, and nobody eats that stuff. The whole addition of it is an undue...

Does fermentation consume fluioride and other heavy elements found in water

Thanks for the info! Yes, this post was concernign contamination in Flint Michigan. Yes I do believe the water quality will degrade to worse levels here in California due to a statewide drought. No there is not much that individuals can do to fight against it. San Diego has been fighting to...

Does fermentation consume fluioride and other heavy elements found in water

Hello, this is my first post. Thank you in advance for your responses. Ive been increasingly concerned with the water quality in my drought stricken state, and after all the recent news of government mishaps of purposely contaminating drinking water, I wanted to ask some of the biochemists...
