    Milk Stout - Carbonation issues

I agree with all you say.....but why has this only happened to my 3 Milk Stouts, no other beer! I don't believe only these 3 had an infection! :) the odds are just too big. But, if you say Lactose is 100% unfermentable then it's the only logical assumption. IT was 1.015 at bottling as I mashed...

    Milk Stout - Carbonation issues

I suspect the Lactose........can yeast slowly break it down? I used S-04. I know it's meant to be 99% unfermentable.....

    Milk Stout - Carbonation issues

I think I have elimated contanimnation as it's only happened with Milk Stouts, not my porters, or ales. To have it only happen to three beers, all Milk Stout I think makes me confiedent it's not wild yeast or similar. The lactose goes into the boil 10 mins before flame out. OG 1.053, FG at...

    Milk Stout - Carbonation issues

I've made three Milk Stouts is the last year, all bottled: 1. First one, priming sugar level 1.8vols - extreme fobbing through over carbonation 2. Second one, priming sugar level 1.5 vols - same result 3. Third attempt - zero priming sugar. Opened one today beer fizzed out of the bottle!!! I...

Liquor pH 4.1 for a Lager, is that ok?

I don't often brew a lager, but just prepared my liquor for a Kolsch tomorrow. I've added some lactic acid as per Murphy and Sons water report, but the Liquor pH is now down to 4.1, which sounds way too low. Will it rise up when I mash? It normally goes down when grains are added.....so...

    Fermentasaurus and Blichman Beer Gun

Just used the gun for the first time.......disaster!!! The beer was far too "excited" and just frothed out the bottles. I lost over 3 litres in froth out of a 15L batch!! I opened one bottle today, and no head, yet there was some carbonation. I think the fact I had to lose so much beer per...

    Anyone have a Fermentasaurus?

Oxebar emailed me and said end of year in Australia and early 2019 in UK, so I suspect same sort of time for US.

    Anyone have a Fermentasaurus?

Yes the handles on the neck is a bit of a concern for me, as I have to carry mine about 20 metres from my house where I brew, to my shed where my fridges are. I need to carry both fermenter and stand at the same time, else I will need two stands....but I'm sure I'll work it out, maybe use a...

    Hazelnut

I would like to brew a Chocolate & Hazelnut Stout, but I am not sure how to best add the Hazelnut. I have a few questions: 1. I understand best to use an Hazelnut essence of some sort? If so, what type, and any recommended brands? 2. How much do you add? 3. When to add? I am thinking when...

    Fermentasaurus and Blichman Beer Gun

Great news! May I ask a question, I assume you used a spunding valve, what pressure did you set it to and how long was the beer under pressure before bottling?

    Fermentasaurus and Blichman Beer Gun

Has anyone used a Blichman Beer Gun to bottle carbonated beer direct from the Fermentasaurus. I think it should be possible, and planned to brew tomorrow and try this. I see two massive advantages in this: 1. No need to prime 2. No need to transfer to a keg and fill from that.

    Anyone have a Fermentasaurus?

I've been writing to Oxebar about my probs with hops sticking in the valve. They mentioned about a new version coming out soon. I think my concern there was a flaw has been admitted and addressed. Just wish I waited a few months before buying mine!! KegLand Fermentasaurus 2 - 27L The new and...

    Anyone have a Fermentasaurus?

Yes, I did that and now I have dry hopped, I just dropped them in from the top. My next dilema is hops/trub are have already filled up the collection bottle. Do I keep emptying now that fermentation has stopped? I reckon after I cold crash I could go through another three bottle changes, and...

    Anyone have a Fermentasaurus?

Quick update, I emptied the bottle, re-attached and I think I had clogging again, so a couple of squeezes of the bottle and hey presto! Thanks for the tip, can't believe I didn't think of that!!!

    Anyone have a Fermentasaurus?

I gave it a poke this morning, and it filled up during the course of today. I've added back the bottle after purging it, but the big gurgling and bubbling as the beer fills it up again makes me nervous, especially as I am very close to end of ferment! Fingers crossed. Next time though I will try...

    Anyone have a Fermentasaurus?

Used mine twice, first time didn't realise you needed to leave the butterfly valve open when adding the wort. I waited until the end to find all the trub was stuck. Now on second brew and still having probs with trub/yeast settling into collection bottle. It's 48 hours and only a third full of...
