    Burned a batch...

Yeah the 220 isn't really an option for me in my current situation... but if I buy my condo like I plan I could get one put in if I remodel the kitchen (the layout is the dumbest layout you could have put in the space and I could triple my usable counter space and cabinets with a small change)...

    Burned a batch...

I will have to look into wilserbrewer's stuff (i could make them but that pricing isn't bad and I won't be visiting the parents for a few months so no access to a sewing machine until then). I will have to get a nicer kettle before the year is out. I really would like one that has heating...

    Burned a batch...

Ah interesting, yeah my Coleman is the 5 gal drink dispenser. I was expecting to use a mash tun with the false bottom and the bag, I've been having good luck as long as I keep pulling the bag up off the bottom of the cooler to allow space for it to drain into. I suspect a false bottom and ball...

    Burned a batch...

Yeah thats exactly what I did and I think that is exactly what happened with the wort. The bottom of the pot was so overheated that the 5 gallon pot was rocking on a bulging bottom... I will have to look at making some bags. I guess it's a good excuse to take a trip home to visit the parents...

    Burned a batch...

I am not using BIAB. I heat my mash in a pot and do my 125* rest then get it up to temp before pouring off into a cooler lined with a bag. The bag I am using is pretty fine. I also usually take a very long time for the batch to heat up on the stove so I am not sure what happened here. I did...

    Burned a batch...

So I was making a batch today and managed to burn the crap out of the wort when i started the boil. I think I milled my grains a touch to fine so I got a lot of sediment when i mashed out. Not positive though if it was my milling or that I used a paint mixer on my drill to dough in and during...

Citrus Ale Brew Day/Step by step

Well first pour. Figured it is only right to drink beer i made out of a glass i made. Head was pretty good, fast rising large bubbles but dropped very fast. Taste: hmmmmm I think between the cascade hops and all the citrus peels i used it may not be what i was expecting. I got much more of a...

What GF ingredients substitute for Pilsner Malt and wheat malt?

So I am questioning if I want to continue using sorghum extract in all my brews or not... I was able to get away with getting gravity I was looking for yesterday in my attempt at a blonde ale (well, it came out kinda dark so it might be more of a dirty blonde ale haha) but on the flip side my...

What GF ingredients substitute for Pilsner Malt and wheat malt?

Thanks! glutardedchris gave me the advise to keep at least 50% pale malts so as I've been planing I have been trying to follow that, usually keeping the buckwheat lower and pretty much ended up at that range you suggest (granted i am using the malted versions but i expect it should translate...

What GF ingredients substitute for Pilsner Malt and wheat malt?

thanks! So even the millet you are using unmalted? I am starting to wonder if I have been putting too much of my recipe design into malt choices to make variations and not really paying enough attention to yeast and hops. I finally ordered different yeasts from what I have been using and will...

What GF ingredients substitute for Pilsner Malt and wheat malt?

Legume, that actually answers another question I have been having about why my citrus ale was super hazy, i had 2 lbs of buckwheat and 3 lbs of rice, wasnt sure which one was the culprit but I think i was leaning to buckwheat being it. Seemed to be less haze when i only used 1 lb of buckwheat...

What GF ingredients substitute for Pilsner Malt and wheat malt?

Simple questions but probably a not so simple answer: What gf malt(s) should be used to substitute for Pilsner Malt? Should I use Pale Millet malt with a little caramillet, munich, and/or vienna millet malt or is there a good suggestion anyone has discovered yet? What works for a wheat...

Citrus Ale Brew Day/Step by step

Bottled this today. The gravity ready very low, 1.006... I am wondering if my OG reading was skewed due to all the trub in the wort or if the citrus peels gave the yeast some extra nutrients to take it lower. I think this one may need a while in the bottle to taste good, the citrus notes and...

    DFH Tweason'Ale recipe guesses?

I am not sure if my tastes have changed over time or if the quality has gone down over time but every time I had this beer it got worse. When it originally came out it was one of the best commercial GF beers but I got a bottle of it last week from the store and the only reason I finished it was...

    First AG GF Brewday Reviewed

mergs and DRV, I only have done one run with GF grain but i mixed my grains like chris and only did one pass (chinese corona style mill), just enough that all the millet was getting cracked but not really flour and I got great efficiency (i batch sparged using a cooler that was lines with a...

New to GF brewing, please help!!!

I am very new to brewing as a whole. I was diagnosed with celiac at 18 so I didn't get a lot of beer to compare to before going GF. I have only made one kit beer and one 'Partial Mash' (i use quotes because the only 'partial' part about it was that i added less than 3 lbs of syrup/extract...
