Look At My Fermenter After One Hour

Interesting. Thanks, guys. I haven't experienced this yet, so it threw me off a bit. It's bubbling away as normal now!

Look At My Fermenter After One Hour

I attempted to brew a one gallon batch of a Long Trail Harvest Ale clone this evening, but I'm concerned something didn't work out based on the amount of trub/sediment in my fermenter after one hour. I had a small grain bill (approx 2.5 lbs) and an extremely small hop addition. My first and...

Show Me Your Small Batch Mash Tun

Quite a few of us, including myself, brew small batches for a variety of reasons. I'm curious to see what everyone is using for a mash tun. I picked up a 2 gallon Coleman cooler for $8.97. Surprisingly, this little thing holds the mash temps quite well! I was able to maintain 152-154 degree...

Who is going to be first homebrewer with one of these?

I've seen this at exactly one place. Wrigley Field in 2011. The beer leaked everywhere. I hated it.

Kettle size for 1 gallon brewing

The 2 gallon is probably too small. I have a boil-off rate of about .75 gallons per hour, which means I need to boil at least 1.75 gallons to end up with one gallon for the fermenter. 1.75 gallons in a 2 gallon pot will be tight. I'd go with the four gallon.

    SMaSH Grain Bill

Thanks all! I downloaded the free trial of BeerSmith. I'll play around with it and see what I can come up with.

    SMaSH Grain Bill

I've been reading a bit about SMaSH brews and I'd like to give it a shot on a small scale; one gallon to be exact. I think I'd like to use Vienna malt for the grain, however, I'm confused with how much is needed? I've seen some one gallon recipes with a grain bill as low as 1.75 lbs, and some...

    Irish Stout Fermentation

Good to know... What do you suggest as a peak temp? 66? 68?

    Irish Stout Fermentation

I took a stab at brewing a one gallon batch of Irish Stout on Saturday. The only yeast I had laying around was a dry packet of Munton's. I pitched after aeration at about 72 degrees and immediately placed it into a temperature controlled refrigerator. I set the Johnson Controls unit to...

    Need Advice After Brewing Hiatus

So after a 3+ year brewing hiatus, I've decided to once again fire up the burners and take a stab at homebrewing. My experience was limited and sadly, nothing I brewed in the past was really worth drinking. So I was stuck with 5 gallons of less than average beer. For those reasons, among...
