    Ooops! ran out of propane

I brew near the entry to my garage, and happen to have a gas line high up on a wall at the rear of the garage, I assume for a garage heater when the original owners built the place. May have to consider something in the future. May have to put my retired dad who converted my BBQ to work again.

    Ooops! ran out of propane

Actually am refilling, got lazy. Just changed the BBQ over to Natural gas, so thought I had some in that one for sure and my local propane guy not open at 11 at night. If only I could get my brewhouse set up with Nat Gas, thats the ticket! Ultimately have too many tanks, started with 2 and...

    Ooops! ran out of propane

Thought about putting them in the fridge, but didn't know how they might be affected by starting to propagate, then crashing them in the fridge, then warming them again, so I put them in the cool basement and have not touched them since Will give them a little shake before I add them.

    Ooops! ran out of propane

So as i was settling into my brew session last night, with 4 partially filled tanks thinking I could easily make it through, I ran out. Luckily just finished collecting the wort and ran out starting into the boil. And yes already smacked my yeast packs. Any concerns finishing the boil today...

How many of you bottle & keg the same batch?

I keg my beer, then just fill a half gallon growler, or several 22oz ( works good when I fly and want to take beer), or 12 oz. for beer comps. no beer gun, just reduce the pressure a little and pour. Have held these in the fridge for months and still carbed and taste great when opened.

    Dry hop potentialy overhopped CDA?

India black ale, IBA. No longer an oxymoron and describes the hops, color and alcohol content in general, as for the east vs west (hoppy dark beer vs roasted hoppy dark beer) leave that for another thread. Currently drinking heart of darkness from Two Beers, very good IBA.

    Carared

That's what I figured as well, but have read some post's that equate it to crystal, imparting a carmal flavor as well as more color and head retention. Have crystal 60 in the recipe as well. Will give it a shot. Actually used it in my last ESB recipe which tasted great going into secondary.

    Carared

So I've tried to do the research, but would like some input. Carared 20L similar to crystal 20, or is is more similar to carafoam, with just more color. Planning on brewing today and don't really want to go to the LHBS, but recipe calls for carafoam, and all I have is carared.

    Spokane beer

Would love to make it to a meeting, but not on facebook, tried to use my wifes and found the ibu page, but couldn't find the "group" that is mentioned to get any of the details. Have met Bernie, President and Brewmaster of Golden Hills at the Hop Shop. He was very willing to have me tour the...

    Spokane beer

Recently moved to Spokane and was amazed after asking around at places like the Hop Shop by the lack of a homebrew club in the area. I was/am a part of Hells Canyon Hombrewers www.hchbrewers.com in Lewiston/Clarkston where we just had our annual homebrew only Oktoberfest. If anybody is...

    Black IPA

So I just put my Black IPA into secondary after 13 days in primary. calculated IBU's were around 70. When I tasted before fermentation, there was a definate hop profile like an IPA should have, however, when I tasted it going into secondary, that fantastic hop profile has diminished and is...

    Black IPA

Thanks for all the input. From the origination turf war to whether it has a roasted character or not. I brewed a 10 gallon batch tonight, and going into the fermenter it tasted pretty good. The hops very prominant and just enough of the roasted flavor. I used an IPA hop bill with Chinook...

    Black IPA

After tasing dark/black Ipa's in the pacific NW, I would say your assesment of the dark Ipa is not completely accurate for this area of the country. Terminal Gravity Brewing out of Enterprise, OR tastes like a combination of a stout and their IPA. very complex flavor characteristic, almost...

    Black IPA

I'm trying to get some input as how to hop my black ipa. Should I just increase the amount of hops in my dark beer recipe, or should I use the malt profile of my dark beer recipe and add an ipa hop profile? What I think is to use my porter recipe, but change the hop profile and use my ipa hop...

    Bad wyeast 1056

I brewed yesterday, when I opened up the smackpack I noticed a different smell to it than I've smelled in the past, almost like burnt popcorn. I admit I've been sick the past week with sinus problems so the sniffer probably ain't in the best shape. Its fermenting away just like normal and the...

Does anyone make Competition-winning brews from Tap Water?

Have won awards for Pale, IPA, ESB all using tap water, unfiltered with no added chemicals. Just use the water straight out of the garden hose.

    I can't Brew All Grain...

Couple more questions. What do you use as your hot liquor tank, what do you collect your first runnings in. I'm wondering if your using something metal other than SS and copper that may affect the flavor. I'm not sure if brass is a problem or not with flavor as you mentioned it with your SS...

    I can't Brew All Grain...

You don't need to go to a smaller set up. I've been using the same size cooler for my 5 gallon batches and they come out just fine. I may have missed it in the thread but are you using a copper manifold or SS braid in your mash tun? If not what are you using. Do you collect the wort in the...
