Mine had just about finished dropping too on Sunday after exactly two weeks. Had a taste of it While and bottling and it seems like it will be okay. Glad I could help!

Thanks atom, I've have really good feelings about this batch. I even pulled some from under the yeast to try it and there seem to be no red flags

Creamy yeast cake after 12 days

Hey guys and girls, I am brewing an IPA using wlp 001. After 12 days the krausen has not dropped(see picture) I checked the gravity, the fg was 1.068 and as of two days ago it was 1.012. The smell also smells like wlb 550 Belgian ale yeast, which was my last brew in this fermenter. 1...

Is this normal? 9 day old beer

What did you prime with, dextrose or cane sugar or something else? Never had problems my self but heard cane sugar can lead to bottle bombs. I have also had beer that is acceptably carbonated to drink with 5 or 6 days(tho not ideal) so I would say you've got nothing to worry about. I would echo...

    Beer color and water

All good points, thanks for the siphon input! Here is my thought on the 'does the color matter if it tastes good' question. I am of two minds about it. For the It doesn't matter camp: I am not entering this beer in any competition so for style reasons the color does not matter. It is not...

Will this work for a mashtun?

I preferred a round 10gallon Home Depot cooler, but that should work. Curious question: how are you making your filter false bottom?

    Beer color and water

Interesting. Thanks for the ideas. It's good to know I'm not crazy and it is darker than it should be...

    Beer color and water

Thanks for the input. Process no different other than using municipal water. This is batch 6 wlp551. In terms of color, I'll post a picture as I have no way to measure.

    Beer color and water

Thanks for the in input. Ive been able to do all grain batches so far- but very good to know in case I do extract. I've also had some local home brewers tell me it could be a reaction between the brass ball valve and stainless steel home made bazooka filter in the mash tun causing rust. I will...

    Beer color and water

Hey all. I have brewed 7 batches of beer, the most recent three being the most successful. Batches 5 and 6 were Pilsner smashes with centennial hops. Batch 5 used wlp550 and six used wlp551. Both beers appeared darker in color than intended and around the edges of the glass appeared to have a...

    Mango Habanero Ale ?

A brewery called BadWolf in manassas va released a small batch of a mango habanero IPA that was awesome. I cannot remember the conversation all that well so let me know if this is totally off base but I recall one of the Brewers telling me mangos went in the mash? The habenero was very good...

Yeasty flavors, off colour using San Diego Super Yeast, what is the culprit

Hey guys, Thank you for the advice. I went by my local home brew store and ran your suggestions by the proprietor. Spot on. I think given my apartment limitations(my system is not temp controlled) I should stick with the Belgian ale yeast as its temp range is right within my means.Thoughts on...

Yeasty flavors, off colour using San Diego Super Yeast, what is the culprit

Thanks everybody, these are definitely things I will look into-continually impressed by everyone's knowledge in the forum. Question about under pitching-does that mean my yeast have been stressed by the conditions and produced off flavors or have died in the batch causing the off flavors? And...

Yeasty flavors, off colour using San Diego Super Yeast, what is the culprit

I chill the wort in an ice bath to about 80 ish, then transfer to the fermenter, then wait a bit to pitch.

Yeasty flavors, off colour using San Diego Super Yeast, what is the culprit

Hey Everyone, I have brewed four batches since June in my brief Homebrewing career and they all display a slightly yeasty flavor to them. Some bottles within batches are better than others while others approach undrinkable all because of this yeasty off flavor and slightly cloudy color. The...

Blew off air lock. What to do/how to make blowoff tube.

So this happened on a Pilsner cascade smash wlp 550 Belgian ale yeast. 1: how do I fix it?(blow off tube?) 2: how does one correctly make a blow off tube. Cheers.

Oops! Kg's not Lbs of grain- did I save it?

I think there is a Richard Yates and then a William butler Yeats. But I digress. Thanks for your advice and kind words. I cracked one of them last night . It has been about a week since we bottled and it looks like everything is moving on schedule. The beer is sweet which I expected, but that...
