    Second Liquid Yeast Starter

I made a liquid yeast starter for an IPA i'm brewing. After pitching it to the primary I had activity within minutes. After about 3 or 4 days has been no activity what so ever. Is it already done or stuck? I have already re-agitated it a couple days after i had no activity... If it is stuck can...

First time yeast starter. Fermentation done?

I brewed my first batch with a liquid yeast starter (California strain). I'm brewing a session ipa so it has a pretty low gravity to begin with. The first few days my airlock was almost whistling there was so much activity. Then it stopped completely after like 3 or 4 days. I know the yeast can...

    anyone use 5 liter kegs??

I want to keg beer instead of bottle. I brew 5 gallon batches. I don't want to spend the money on a kegging system/kegerator. Has anyone used 5 L (1 gallon) kegs before? It seems like a cheaper alternative that I can still fit in my fridge. The reviews on them are kinda mixed though.

    Fermentation haulted

I used a white labs WLP051 Yeast in this 5 gallon session ipa I'm brewing. I did a yeast started and when I pitched the yeast it started producing co2 pretty quickly. Within 10 hours it was bubbling pretty quickly. Now 3 days into fermentation, I'm getting close to no bubbles in the air lock...

    Yeast starter question

I am doing a yeast starter and I used a 2 cup water to one half cup DME mixture. After boiling and cooling and getting everything into the flask I turned on the stir plate and it has been stirring over night. When looking at it the morning it seems like the yeast/sediment in the bottom of the...

    Brewing an IPA

I brewed my first IPA and it turned out great. I used a kit for this last one, changed up a few things with the hops but it still turned out great. I have an idea of what hops I'd like to use for the next IPA (galaxy or centennial or citra), but i'd like to use a lighter malt than the kit I used...

    Smell after primary fermentation???

Okay but now I'm in a predicament. If I let it sit another week or so in the secondary (while its dry hopping) won't there be a grassy flavor from the hops? I could re-rack it back into the primary but from the response of people on here about using secondaries I'm sure your opposed to moving...

    Smell after primary fermentation???

So this is my first batch and I don't know if i was just too hasty and messed up. My primary had stopped bubbling (8 days in). I took a final gravity and it checked out to what it should be. I wanted to dry hop it in a carboy so I put the hops in the carboy and racked it. As I was racking I...

    Dry hop in secondary

I used cascade/columbus for my bittering addition and a late centennial addition. Because I'm going for a citrusy beer, I'm thinking about dry hoping with citra and galaxy but i've never used those hops.... any thoughts?

    Dry hop in secondary

I'm brewing my first ipa and i plan using a secondary fermenter. When should I rack it to the secondary? The primary is bubbling about 1 time per minute right now (7 days in). I also plan on dry hoping in the secondary. I know I shouldn't dry hop too long or you get a grassy flavor. Can I rack...

    Dry hopping

I'm currently fermenting my first ipa. It was a 3 hop addition boil of cascade(first),columbus(30 min), and centennial at the end. I'm going to move it over to a secondary fermenter in the next couple days and I am wondering if there are certain hops that can't be mixed. Hops I have are...

    fermentation temperature; too cold?

I'm having the same problem but much worse. I brewed a 5 gallon batch of an IPA yesterday and then my heat died over night. I woke up and my house was at 48 degrees F. Will my yeast die?

    Fermentation Temperature too low??

I'm new to brewing and this is the first batch i've done. I'm brewing an IPA (using the bell's brewery ingredient kit) and everything went really well. The whole brew day went perfect, I siphoned the wort into the primary fermenter and sealed it off at room temperature (around 65 degrees F)...
