Wet grains through a steel mill? Rust?

I've got the cereal killer and I malt condition. I've never had a problem with rust. The grain doesn't get wet enough for it to cause a problem. I spray the grain down with water, cover it for 30 minutes and then mill it. Works great.

    Russian imperial stout aging

I've got in on my schedule to make this RIS every year on Father's day weekend, primary it for a month, then to the secondary until Veteran's day (November 11th) and then to bottles and then start slowly adding them to the fridge right before Christmas. I saved a 12 pack from last year and plan...

    Wyeast 1335 - slow?

I made a starter of this earlier this week and all went well. Are you just not seeing an krausen? when looking at it while spinning, are you seeing little particles moving around?

Brew It! - Yooper's Oatmeal Stout

Funny timing on this post since I'm brewing this tomorrow. I brewed it last year and it was great. It's on my "Always brew this in September" list.

Best way to aviod a hangover!

+5 on the Pedialyte recommendation. Went on a bender this past Friday night and had heard about Pedialyte being a good cure. So Saturday morning got some of it, drank a liter of it, took a nap a couple hours later, woke up after an hour and felt like a million bucks. As someone else...

    How's my crush?

How did it turn out? Did you get a stuck sparge with it? It does look a bit fine and maybe slightly more flour than what you'd want but doesn't look too bad. One thing I started doing is malt conditioning and I swear by it now. Before milling it, take your grain bill, turn it into...

    What I've Learned On HomeBrewTalk

As a side business, I'm a personal trainer. One issue I've always had with that industry is that the majority of trainers follow a certain philosophy and have no interest in looking at other ways. It turns the industry into more of a religion than a science. The one thing I absolutely love...

Basic All Grain Process - 1st Time

One thing that I do as a very first step is bring about a gallon and a half of water to a boil and add that to the Mash Tun and let it sit while the strike water is reaching the desired temperature, then dump out that water and add the strike water. That way, you aren't adding the strike water...

How long is your brew day?

I'm at about 8 hours. This past Saturday I started malt conditioning around 7:00 am, finished cleaning around 3:00 pm. I don't rush it. It's a fun day.

    Ballpark/stadium beer

+1. When I go to ballgames, I usually get downtown about 2 hours before game time and hang out in a bar close to the stadium and "front load." Beer is cheaper, and I know what the quality will be, and then it limits me to one insanely expensive (and not as good) beer in the stadium.

    The HomeBrewTalk Top 100 Recipes - 49 - 25

Yooper Oatmeal Stout is a great brew. marubozo's RIS is amazing. I actually have this on my yearly calendar to brew it Father's day weekend, primary for a month, then secondary and then bottle on Veteran's day each year and always save a 12 pack to compare to the prior years. One of the best...

    The HomeBrewTalk Top 100 Recipes - 74 - 50

The BBD Saison Furtif is one of the best beers I've made in my short 2 year homebrewing career. It's one of those beers that I'll keep making when I'm close to running out. I'm really looking forward to brewing the Tits Up Imperial IPA next weekend.

The HomeBrewTalk Top Homebrew Recipes Part 2

The Bee Cave Porter is definitely top notch.

I am giving up beer for 30 days

Great job for going with this. This past Lent, I gave up drinking. 47 days without a drink. It was amazing how good I felt. Made me wonder why I drank. Then on day 48, I had a glass of Founders CBS and that gave me the answer as to why I drank.

White Whales and Founders KBS Dethroned?

I was up in Lundington Michigan about a month back and was in a bar and was shocked to see CBS on tap AND no one else paying attention to it. I swear I probably drank half that keg myself.

Oberon Clone - Late Addition? Hops Reductions?

One of my first Extracts was the Oberon clone, although it was the clone of Solsun from Bell's before they changed it to Oberon, which was a bit closer to a Saison then the current Oberon. I think your recipe looks fine, and I wouldn't worry too much about when you're adding the DME. Try it...

    sterlizing bottles

Do a search on a home brew site for the "Vinator Bottle Washer." Gets your bottles sanitized in a jiffy while your priming sugar is boiling.

How I feel about Fat Tire Amber Ale.

It's a drinkable beer but, I've started to shy away from it. And for some reason, it really dehydrates me. Overall, I think New Belgium doesn't have the most impressive beer selection. I do like their 1554 and they use to have one called Snow.. something and it was more of a Winter Ale that I...

    Bells suing a small brewer

+1000. A real jerk. It's a reason I do my best to not drink Bell's.
