    Fermentation lock fill level?

I agree with the vodka. A cheap and effective deal. Small bottle of the cheap stuff goes for about $3.50 around here and bottle seems to last a while. And, if you spill it, you can lick it off your fingers, the counter, etc.!!! _____________________ Timmy

    Dump it?

Sounds like you did o.k. I would bet it was a loose lid. Doesn't have to be too loose for you to lose a LOT of CO2. Bottle it, let it age and then drink it!! _______________ Timmy

    tubing from lowes

Have purchased tubing at Lowe's before. The stuff I bought had "food grade" on the box so I bought it. Worked fine. Timmy

    Oak Question

Hey BeeGee, that oak/vanilla stout sounds fantastic!! Let us know how it tastes!! I have used oak for wine but never in beer. I would think red oak would be o.k. if used in moderation. Again, just my opinion. _____________________ Tim

    Oh What a Releif!!

Had done a Black Cherry Stout kit I ordered from Northern Brewer. It came with a "smack pack" yeast. I had never used a smack pack before and when I opened up to start, the pack was already swollen. I thought that might be trouble. Did it this past Thurs night and then waited and waited. No...

    Fruit Beer

I agree w/ the posters here. I have only made a raspberry wheat and I did it w/ an extract I found in a little bottle at the HBS. My wife waited a week after bottling and popped one open. She really liked it. I like it better now that it has aged for a few months. I think it has too much...

    Goofy Question!

I agree with most posts here most specifically Bill. I usually try to wait at least 2 weeks before I open to taste. But I have found as most have that it just gets better the longer you wait. The Nut Brown Ale, which I didn't think I would like all that much, has turned out to be one of my...

    Turkey Fryer?

I agree w/ most posts here. Get stainless steel pot. Burner should be relatively high BTU. Most turkey fryer burners are around 30,000 if I am not mistaken. Should really be higher. However, it will work. Rarely do we all have "ideal" setups. Just my opinion!!! _________________ Tim

    Hydrometer Poll

Guess I'm in the category of "like to know whats going on" but I agree that it is sometimes hard to read. But maybe its because my eyes are OLD and BAD!! Still, I wish that someone could come up with a digital thing I could just stick in the beer and push a button and have a number. Oh...

    YAY Brew Sink!!

Sounds like a sweet setup Sasquatch! I currently have the back porch. Not as bad as it sounds though. It is enclosed and heated and cooled. Have a cabinet and hopefully will have shelves and a homemade "brew sculpture" soon. No sink out there........................yet...

    air lock blowout!

It should be fine. I agree with what Walker said. I would let it be for awhile and let fermentation slow a bit before transferring. But relax, I think things are going to be o.k.!! ___________________________ Tim

    Homemade Sediment Catcher for Conical

O.K. Reporting back. I like the device with the 2nd valve on it. Worked better and was great to clean. ________________ Tim

Has anyone used or know anything about these??

Just finished and my 8 gallon conical and it is sitting w/ sanitizing solution in it. I liked it, but I have to get the gasket. I would consider it worth what I paid. ______________________ Tim

    Homemade Sediment Catcher for Conical

I agree with Scott. In fact, today I spent a good amount of time fashioning just such a device. As I am not very good at soldering, it took me some time. Basically, came off of 1" valve with a copper male adapter reducing down to 3/4. In one version, I simply extended a 3/4 copper piece down...

Has anyone used or know anything about these??

cbotrice, I just brewed my first batch in my brand new 8 gallon conical. Mine came with a stand though. It is still fermenting; am getting ready to drain trub out and let settle some more. I thought it interesting that I could get a better price on it from my HBS than I could direct from...

    Mash Tun Suggestions??

Hey thanks guys. I have a lot to think over. Have just finished a bit of "plumbing" on my conical. Been soldering some copper. Was more work than I thought!!! ___________________ Tim

    Mash Tun Suggestions??

O.K. As some of you know, I want to progress to All Grain. Have been reading and researching mashing, etc. I think I have settled on making my own mash tun out of a 10 gallon water cooler, with brass fittings and valves. Do you all think this is better than the ice chest type?? Anyone know...

    CPVC Question

Now I truly feel like an idiot!! I have a pretty good construction background and just wasn't thinking!!!!! I have never had and undrinkable batch and I just didn't want to make something that would have a nasty taste from something I had "rigged" up! O.K. guys, don't laugh too hard and spray...
