    Hot Surface Ignitor Problem

Weird, now it's working fine again. I'm really skeptical about a brew day as is though. If I disconnect the power to the smartvalve shouldn't it reset even if it was locking down do to a failed ignition?

    Hot Surface Ignitor Problem

I have a Honeywell Smart Valve that has a intermittent pilot and hot surface ignitor. It worked great with my BCS 460. I was able to fire it up manually and with the BCS. Tested it quite a few times etc... Today I did a test run with 5 gallons of water just to check everything before I brew...

    Honeywell Smart Valves

I've got it working now. I hooked the 24v hot up to constant power and the 24v thermostat wire up to the SSR. I abandoned the cat 5 cable too. Something about the strands was making it screwy. I had power going to the 24v coming out of the jack but nothing on the other end of the patch...

    Honeywell Smart Valves

The HSI is not turning on to light the pilot. I checked the ohms of the HSI and it is good. I'm wondering if I should hook up the thermostat wire to the SSR and just hook up the 24V hot to constant 24v power. Or just hook them both up to SSR? In the troubleshooting guide it says that you...

    Honeywell Smart Valves

I am having trouble getting my Honeywell Smart Valve to fire. I have it hooked up to a HOA switch and I am getting 24v to the valve in the on and auto position, but nothing is happening. My switch is wired per this diagram of JonW. I have 24V going into my SSR and I am getting 24V at the...

    Honeywell Smart Valves

What could I use as a cheap solution for quick disconnects for my Smart Valve power? I am running Cat5 connectors for my temperature gauges, but running power over Cat5 sounds like a bad idea. Thanks again, Andy

    Honeywell Smart Valves

Now that you made me check and learn what all that means, I think the transformer I took back to RadioShack would have worked too. It was 25Vac at 2.0 amps which would mean it is 50 VA right? Also for small transformers VA is essentially watts right? Andy

    Honeywell Smart Valves

Yes sorry, a 120VAC Primary, 24V secondary 40 VA transformer. Thanks

Help Choosing a Smoker for a Newbie

I bought a 18.5" Weber Smokey Mountain this spring and I love it. I got it used for $175 and it was in perfect condition. I would suggest also spending 50 bucks on a remote temperature gauge. Then go to cash and carry and buy their ridiculously cheap Lazzeri lump charcoal. Sometimes it...

    Honeywell Smart Valves

I just wanted to say that you guys are awesome. I ordered a Q3450 and returned a 24VAC transformer for a 40 VAC. I should be set now. Thanks again, Andy

    Honeywell Smart Valves

Thanks a million Kladue. That is exactly what I needed to hear. Now I just need to figure out how to wire the thing to my BCS 460 with a quick disconnect. Andy

    Honeywell Smart Valves

I need help figuring out what to do. I bought a Honeywell Smart Gas Valve thinking I could fire it directly with a Hot Surface Igniter I did not realize that it is an intermittent pilot valve. I also did not realize that the valve is 24v and the igniter is 120v. The HSI didn't come with...

    Simple 460 Build?

FYI, I was helped over at Embedded Control Concepts board. I ended up ordering the BCS 460, and a Honeywell Smartvalve. I may go to electric one day, but I have nice burners and I would have to get 220 run from my basement out to my back deck. Maybe if/when we do our big remodel I will...

    Simple 460 Build?

So, I've been reading and things are starting to make more sense. I am working on a parts list so that I can see how much this will cost. I want to automate one burner with a temperature sensor. My burner is a high pressure Blichmann floor burner on the extension legs. I have all my burners...

    Simple 460 Build?

I am looking for a simple way to control my RIMS temperature and maybe have some expandability later. I was about to drop $575 on the Blichmann Tower of Power controller that really has no expandability and I thought if I could install a BCS 460 to do the same thing for less, why not? I have...

Beer tastes good BEFORE bottling, bad after..???

What size auto siphon are you using? The large ones are supposedly for wine and actually aerate as you transfer. I found this out just recently after using them for years.

Belgian Dark Strong Ale The Pious - Westvleteren 12 style quad - multiple

I'm thinking a carboy cap, co2, and a racking cane with a hose going into a sanitized jar. Move the racking cane around and suck out the krausen.

Cuvee de Tomme clone group project

I have 4.5 gallons of the New World Westy recipe that I added Jolly Pumpkin dregs to. Cherries are now in season and I was planning on adding about 4 pounds of fresh cherries to the fermenter. I added the dregs in March with 1 oz of Hungarian Oak cubes. Does 4 pounds of fresh cherries sound...

Belgian Dark Strong Ale The Pious - Westvleteren 12 style quad - multiple

I made 10 gallons of this recipe and put Jolly Pumpkin dregs in 5 gallons of it. It smells delicious. I don't know if you like funky/sour beers, but that would bring down the FG some if you don't get it down otherwise.
