    Cider yeasts

Just an FYI to the community. This is from an email that I got from The Beverage People. No affiliation other than being a customer. Our staff has learned a lot about cider in the last 10 years, from our own fermentations, from the experience of our customers, and from the work and knowledge...

    Have CO2 prices risen?

I haven't filled my 5 lb. cylinder for a while, and this article says the price of CO2 has skyrocketed. Has this trickled down to the homebrewer? CO2 gas prices skyrocket by 600 percent amid shutdown

where can you get honey tested?

A fellow on gotmead has some honey that is obviously cut with something. Where can he send a sample to be tested, so he can confront the vendor with data?

    PET Carboys

Yesterday at 4:02 PM I'm looking for a couple 5 gallon PET carboys to use as semi-long term bulk aging with my ciders and meads. I have a 3 gallon Better Bottle that I've used for years and I really like it. But the 5 gallon size seems to not be in stock anywhere. There are other "brands" (no...

    Cider resource, FYI

I'm on a mail list from The Beverage People and lately they've been sending me cider making articles. It's advertising, of course, but some of the info might help a noob getting started in cider. I have no connection with them other than having bought supplies from them before. So, I'm just...

    how to make a merlot?

I drink Blackstone merlot a lot. It's about $10 per 750 ml. I've never made wine though I've done a lot of cider and mead, so I'm not a noob at fermenting. I get cider from local mills and honey from local beekeepers or online. Where do you get grape juice? What would be the path to an excellent...

    clarifying honey

I have some local wildflower honey that's crystalized. I understand that it can be de-crystalized by putting the jar in hot water. Anybody have a clue about what temperature and for how long?

who's bringing mead to Christmas dinner?

I have some mesquite traditional that's a year old and a cyser from 2018 that will show up on the table this year. How about you guys? Merry Christmas, mazers.

    extending an Inkbird's current range

I want to power a 1500 watt immersion heater with my Inkbird controller, but that's beyond the 10 amp spec on the controller. Is there a pre-packaged relay/power extender that's plug & play? I have the skills to fabricate one but I'm lazy and would rather push the Amazon buy button... tia

    any cider comps this year?

With covid lockdowns going on it seems like the comps that I normally participate in aren't happening this year. Anybody know of a comp that is taking place that accepts ciders?

    Mixing wines at serving time

I have some mesquite mead that I made last year that's all bottled. It's quite nice but a lot sweeter than I like. As a point of reference, my wine of choice is Blackstone Merlot, I'm not a white wine guy (other than mead and cysers). I'm thinking of mixing a dry white wine with it at serving...

    Whazzup with Amazon?

Delivery on just about everything is showing April 21, a month out. This is with Prime membership. Are they delivering face masks or something?

    crystallized honey

How hot and how long to get crystallized honey flowing again?

    racking from a Spidel

I have a 20 ltr Spidel fermenter and I couldn't find anything in my brew room that fits the spout for racking off the lees (cider). Plastic wands are too small to fit inside, and I have no tubing big enough to fit over the outside. Is there something made for this, or do we improvise?

Anybody serve mead for the holidays?

I brought some mead to Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners this holiday season and it was a big hit. Empty bottles :D Mesquite traditional made a year ago, and it just keeps getting better with time. Wondering if you guys served up any of yours this year?

    Do toilets wear out?

I've been in this house a couple years now and the toilet has occasionally refused to flush down. A plunger always works, and only once has it actually overflowed. I've done the requisite cleaning of the waterways under the rim, used some clog remover stuff and finally had a plumber have at it...

    Monitor for Tilt hydrometer

I want to get a Tilt hydrometer but I don't have any compatible mobile devices like a smart phone or tablet. I do have a regular PC and WiFi but no bluetooth on that. So, looking at Android phones on eBay they want to know what network I'd be using. Since the only use for this would be to...

    Scored some honey

Found a local beekeeper, picked up 15 lbs of Summer wildflower for $100 and a handshake. He had 2 harvests, the early one is a nice golden color and the fall harvest is much darker. Last years mead was made with mesquite honey and I was disappointed in how little honey flavor is there even...

how long before trees produce apples?

My back yard is plenty big enough for a few apple trees, but I'm an old guy and can't wait till I'm 80 before getting apples. Can you buy trees that are already old enough to produce fruit in a year or two?
