What's the worst craft brew (commercial) you've had?

St. Arnolds "Elissa" and No label Brewery's "Jalapeno". Both are local breweries here in Houston. I just can't drink either of those beers though. The others made by those companies are delicious though!

Making Traditional rice Wine. Cheap, Fun, and Different

OK gents, first batch is fermenting now. I used "Mahatma Enriched Thai Fragrant Long Grain Jasmine Rice". The package was 2 lbs which came out to right at 5 cups of dry rice. Rinsed, soaked for about 20 minutes, then boiled on the stove top for about 15. I used a 1:1.25 ratio of water to dry...

Making Traditional rice Wine. Cheap, Fun, and Different

Ok, I'm up to page 92 of this thread and I am fascinated by this process! I have all of the materials to make my first batch. Thai Jasmin rice, yeast balls, and a glass container. I do have a question about the container though. The one I have is like the one pictured here on the bottom shelf...

    Is there a beer "glossary"?

    WINNER WINNER!!! Thanks a bunch!

    Is there a beer "glossary"?

Is there some place online where I can find a glossary of terms for everything beer? Really what I'm looking for is a list describing what the differences are for things like lager, ale, pilsner, stout, porter, etc.... I know they are all beer but what are the differences? Instead of posting a...

    Help me understand the hydrometer...

So, I'm not going to nuke the neighborhood with this batch then? I must admit, my hydro didn't come with a tube to measure in so I had to scramble to find a vessel tall enough. I emptied TWO 22oz bottles and THREE 12 oz bottles before my wife suggested just using one of the 22 oz bottles for...

    Help me understand the hydrometer...

Ok, here is a pic I just took. I opened up one of the 22oz bottles and the hydro floated at this reading. Obviously my reading earlier does not match but this looks better, right? Time to drink a lukewarm first home brew! :)

    Help me understand the hydrometer...

It was sitting in my closet a week. We keep the AC in the house set on about 72 so it didn't get over that during that time.

    Help me understand the hydrometer...

Hmmmm, the airlock has showed NO activity in a few days now and the kreusen (sp?) has also completely disappeared a few days ago as well. I know that doesn't mean that fermentation is complete but initially the carboy was full of foam and the airlock was bubbling like crazy. That has all...

    Help me understand the hydrometer...

Just put my first batch into bottles today. It was just over 4 gallons after putting it into the bottling bucket. I didn't do any hydrometer readings prior to putting it in primary simply because it would not have made sense to me anyway. Today when I put it in the bottling bucket I did take a...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

I just picked up a kit for a nice Honey Brown Ale. My 2nd batch ever. I have my first batch, a Summer Ale, sitting in primary now and will be bottled this weekend.

    Primary fermentation done?

Gotcha! I'll be heading to the LHBS today for another carboy, some bottles, and another recipe kit. I'm a firm believer in preparedness! :tank:

    Primary fermentation done?

I checked the carboy in my closet this morning and the airlock has nearly completely stopped moving. The past few days it had been churning pretty good but now it's only moves every few minutes or longer. The foam on top of the beer has dissipated as well. It's still pretty cloudy at this point...

Boil in a turkey frier/crawfish boiler?

Awesome! Thanks guys. Time to break out the frier and propane. No more stove top boils!

Boil in a turkey frier/crawfish boiler?

I have a couple of those big turkey friers/crawfish boilers that have been previously used for those purposes. Would it be ok to boil a batch of beer in them? They are made from aluminum though so I guess my question is is it ok to boil in it?

    Just another Texas home brewer....

Hey guys how we doing! Years ago I bought the Mr. Beer kit like so many of us here seem to have done. I made a batch with the stuff that came in the kit and I thought it was ok. For some reason I didn't make anything else after that. I still had an interest in home brewing but just never quite...
