    The science of hop pitching

So how does one learn the science of this wonderous technique? Must one climb a mountain and consult the sages or is there an app for that? Sorry if I sound trite, but it's not obvious, and I really want to learn. Cheers! Pete D.

    The science of hop pitching

Hi all, I'm fairly new to the art of brewing. I have MADE beer for many years, but only recently begun to pay close attention to what I'm putting in it. ie: going beyond the basic recipe. So I got to wondering in my double IPA fog, if boiled hops are for bittering, and dry hopping is...

    Double IPA recipe adjustments

Thanks chickypad. I downloaded the trial version of BeerSmith 2 and tried it out. When I plug in the relevant info for the original recipe, the results come back quite different from what I experienced. I suppose it takes some time to learn the ins-and-outs. Do you use BeerSmith as a starting...

    Help with odd bottle please.

I'm so sorry Crispbrew. You must think I'm some kind of jerk, but I didn't notice your post from yesterday. You found the answer! Thanks. And it wasn't Latvian, it was Lithuanian. Crap! Too many double IPAs. Time for bed.:smack: Cheers all! Pete D.

    Double IPA recipe adjustments

By the way...... Why do the flavours/scents from dry hopping dissipate with time? In some cases within a few weeks. Is there a way to extend the time that the flavours stick around, or are there some other hop types that have better persistence? Cheers! Pete D.

    Double IPA recipe adjustments

So its the oils in the hops that give the piney/citrus/fruity flavours or scents? Is it also the oils that cloud the brew when it is refrigerated. I noticed my dry hopped brews always go into the fridge clear and come out cloudy. But then I notice the same thing when I go into a...

    Help with odd bottle please.

:fro: Thanks Bosco, I wondered about the pressure. I gave the mystery to my grandson. He found the answer in less than 5 minutes. Damn kids and their internet savvy. It seems it used to contain Latvian mead. It also seems that some of the meads are carbonated. I don't bottle...

    Help with odd bottle please.

Hi all. I'm new to the forum. Looking for some help on identifying a bottle that my sister found in a thrift store here in Canada. It's 500 ml swing top and modern design. I would like to find a few more, full or empty to give as gifts full of my best brew. Thanks in advance...

    Double IPA recipe adjustments

Hi all. I'm new to this forum. I just completed a Brewer's Best Double IPA kit. Have been drinking it for a couple of weeks and really enjoy it. I made a change, since there was no dry hopping suggested in the recipe, I dry hopped 2 oz with cascade and I think it made a big difference. I...
