    Making Priming Solution Early?

How would bacteria or anything that could affect it negatively survive the boil as well as a sanitized vessel, though? Everything I can think of why it would be bad idea just doesn't make sense but I also don't know the properties of storing a sugar-water solution for long periods of time. The...

    Making Priming Solution Early?

I've heard of doing it a few hours before bottling but my question pertains mainly to making larger batches of solution and storing it in a sanitized 2-liter or something of that sort. I'm always looking for ways to streamline the brewing and bottling process. Has anybody made a large batch...

    Bottle carbing temperature

Warmer is always better when you want them to carb up. That said, I wouldn't worry about moving them to that other room unless it's convenient. Three weeks at a steady 68 should still do the trick. It kinda just depends on how carbed you enjoy your beer. You could always move some up to that...

Make up water charge during boil.. did I mess up

FWIW, I've never boiled my top-off water and have never had an issue with contamination from the tap. If you are intent on boiling your top-off water, make sure you sanitize whatever you'll be putting the water into unless the water is above 160 or boiling it first will be pointless. Good luck...

What's your occupation: Engineer or Non-Engineer

Non-engineer. I'm a photographer and a full-time student. History major. I've always enjoyed science but give me a textbook on American history over a chem or bio book any day, ever.

    How Did You Get Started?

Before diving into equipment my wife and I took a brewing class from the LHBS (local homebrew shop). The hobby sounds amazing and everything but I would make sure you're in to all the cleaning and sanitizing that needs to be done. In my opinion the brew process isn't super intensive but there...

    question on the instructions

Stirring the wort with the immersion chiller itself, I found, is a much more efficient way of cooling it quicker. If it's so big that it squeezes into the pot you won't get as an efficient heat transfer since less wort will be in contact with the IC. In that case, I would definitely suggest...

    question on the instructions

FWIW, I never boil my top-off water. Ever. Maybe I have fantastic water (or luck) but I find boiling the top-off water just a time waster. I usually cool the wort with an immersion chiller to about 85, pour into my primary, then top off with water straight from the tap and pitch. Haven't had an...

Denver/Boulder Brewers: Stomp them Grapes and Hop To It

Except this thread was started 09-14-2012 so they actually have been lazy business owners for over 14 months now. Bummer. I live around US36 and Sheridan and have been more than pleased with Do Your Brew west of 88th and Wads. Their prices are spot on. The guys who work there can be a little...

    Greetings from Westminster, CO

Brewed my first batch about three months ago and now have three batches bottled and carbing and another sitting in one of my primaries. I have an annual brocation coming up where up to 15 friends and friends of friends will be heading out for a few days of ski in/out accommodations so I'm...
