    Test for yeast

I'm not adding yeast to bottles. Beer in bottles is too sweet as is. This is because the yeast I used wasn't able to handle the high alcohol that was produced during fermentation. I didn't understand this until after I bottled. I got some stronger high alcohol yeast and made a starter. I...

    Test for yeast

My yeast was a non high gravity one. So if I let beer sit in bottles gravity not going to drop. If I open bottles and add strong high gravity yeast, it will process the rest of sugars and bring gravity down to hopefully 1.06 area. Trial and error. That's how we learn. Asking questions only gets...

    pitching yeast before bottling?

So... I talked to another source. When this big beer was brewed, there was many others that were using the same wort off a brewery mash-ton. He knew the yeast better than I did. Turns out the yeast was only good to 10-11%, and that's why still sugary and flat. He had same issue, but instead...

    pitching yeast before bottling?

Yes I plant this question in different locations to get a good feed back. I can be patient. I just figured the carbonation portion took place in first 2 weeks of bottling, then it would age. Now I know that the carbonation process can take a lot longer than 2 weeks. Appreciate the info and...

    Test for yeast

Thanks. So it's been 3 weeks and no or low carbonation. Ill let them sit for another 2 months and see what happens. Hopefully they will carbonate.

    pitching yeast before bottling?

What does oxidization do? Someone else told me that too. If I dump them into keg and then full with CO2, I don't understand the issue. Ill investigate this myself, but if u got good explanation that be cool.

    Test for yeast

Used 4oz of sugar for priming.

    Test for yeast

Been sitting between 70-74 degrees. I don't know much about oxidization. Ill look into that. I got word from someone else that at least 2 months. Hues ill have to be patient. Ongoing to keg some and see the difference. Thanks

    pitching yeast before bottling?

I'm probable going to leave 24 in bottles and open and keg the rest. Patience patience patience I guess.

    Test for yeast

I just brewed a big beer with OG of 1.1. When I.bottled it, the yeast had dropped out and it ended up flat in bottle. I'm going to open aloof them and put in keg to carbonate. I guess it's only the high gravity beers that this happens to? Is there a way to test to see if yeast still floating...

    pitching yeast before bottling?

I just brewed a big beer. OG 1.1 and FG 1.02. I bottled it using just priming sugar, and it came out flat. New to me too about pitching yeast at bottling. If brewing big beer, how much yeast should be pitched and when? Day if bottling? All the yeast dropped out, could there still be ferment...

    Dry Hop Not Working?

Good info. I've been looking for that strong aroma that bites the nose too. Been putting dry hops in to early and for to long it sounds like. I'm brewing batch now and I'm going to follow these guidelines: -wait for beer to clear up first -dry hop for few days only, not weeks Hope fore the...

    Moving to secondary fermentor

I dry hopped nine days before bottling. I was under impression that dry hopping in fermentor at any time would be good, but heard that it could cause vegetation tastes and aroma so its not good to do, to far before bottling. I've got a brew of Russian Rivers Bling Pig brewing right now. I added...

    Moving to secondary fermentor

I bottled today. Tasted sweet as I would expect from high gravity. Still sitting at 1.021. Will let sit for a couple weeks then open a bottle every week to check progress. Don't have the aroma I was going for. Used about 3-4 oz hops in dry hop. Wait for carbonation. Maybe dry hop closer to...

    Moving to secondary fermentor

I bottled it today. Still had gravity of 1.021. Hoped it was going to drop more. Ill wait 2 weeks and probably start opening a bottle a week to see how it goes. Taste good, sweet, like I'd expect from high gravity. I added about 3 ounces of hops for dry hop but never get/got the aroma I want...

    Official Broken Hydrometer Count

My box of brew stuff was on shelf, high shelf, in garage. When grabbing it, it toppled over and things flew everywhere. 1 week ago. Total 947.

    Protien extraction

I am working on a big bear with an OG of 1.1. It's a DIPA. Wort was around 1.08+ before boil. It's now been sitting for about 4 weeks. A week ago I put it into a secondary fermentor. It had a gravity reading if 1.021. It still has work to do. I wanted to move it into secondary because that one...

    Moving to secondary fermentor

Great post. Learning stuff. Glad to all who have contributed. I'm still letting my brew, that had an OG of 1.1, sit. Cooked on July 14, getting close to a month in fermenter. I see how it needs to condition and takes a lot longer. Still very cloudy but has cleared up a lot. Bubble here and...

    Moving to secondary fermentor

I didn't realize how much time these big beers need for not just fermentation but conditioning and aging. Makes sense. One thing I know is I need to get more fermenters. My next batchsI'm brewing 5 gallons, but splitting them up into single gallon fermenters. That way I can use one as the...

    Moving to secondary fermentor

6-12 months? That's crazy. I was planning in putting in in a secondary for around 2 weeks then bottling. Is there a chart that shows how long a given beer should sit before refrigeration? I appreciate the info. Ill probably pull a few bottles to drink and age the others.
