    At what gravity should honey be at when adding it to secondary fermenter

    55 gallon electric brew kettle

    how do you control the percentage of power to each element? I am using 1 5500W element on my HLT and one 5500W on my BK. They are either 100 percent on or off. I have a 15 gallon setup now, but want to go larger and will have to add another element.

    Thanks, that helps a lot. I am going to fill my HLT with ice and water and use it as my wort chiller, so that morning I will add water and bleach to my brew kettle, pump it through the HLT coil and out to the fermenter. I will then pump fresh water through to rename. This won't take long at...

    Thanks for all the help. Maybe I will give fly sparging a shot. I think I will make my sparge arm out of 3/8 stainless tube instead of the 1/2 inch I am using now and drill smaller holes. This should slow it down a little and cover more area.

    Thanks, it all started at the bend brewery. There was a small propane set up being demonstrated and I thought to myself, I could make one of those. The more I read, the more intricate it became.

    Ok thanks, so when you say two step batch sparge does that mean you drain the wort into the brew kettle, close the valve, fill with hot water from HLT and stir, drain into brew kettle, close valve and repeat?
