    How much water to boil?

    I have a AHS irish red ale kit. It says to bring 2 1/2 gallons to 155 then steep grains.After doing all additions ,cooling and putting in fermenter,it says add cool water to bring to 5 1/4 gallons. can we initailly boil a larger batch of water,say 4 gallons instead of 2 1/2?     Carboy Question

    Glass carboys fit great in the crates milk gets delivered in. I am not condoning using these crates that everyone seems to have lying around,just stating that they fit great and make it safer to move those carboys around. And the glass does ultimately stay cleaner.:mug:

    my first time using a wort chiller... was a disaster

    Instead of a section of garden hose you could just get a shorter washing machine hose.many of the garden hoses are"kink" proof,giving you the extra layer of stuff that is not very compatible with barbed fittings.

    When done boiling the extract down,and the wort is cooled,and pouring from the brew kettle to the fermenter,should you pour in whatever settled in the brew pot to the fermentor or leave it in the bottom of the kettle?

    Read this before you buy from Kegkits.com

    Have you filed a contested charge with the credit card company you were charged to? They can hold money from his account. If everyone that has been charged to a credit card and not received their stuff would do this it would put the brakes on quick.

    Transfered to secondary,do i need to top up?

    :p I haved topped up wine in the carboys with a little boiled sugar water to keep air space low. When adjusting brew to compensate do you need more ingredients or can you have a little more water in the brew kettle before dumping into the primary?
