    homemade mash paddle

Ive always used mineral oil on all my wooden utensils, including my home made mash paddle with no ill effects. It helps to seal the wood and keep food particles from getting in and going rancid.

Building a brewery in my basement

I would think that a bathroom ventilation fan would be ideal. Most will move a lot more air than a regular kitchen hood and their made to pull moisture out of the air. I think their in about the same price range also, if not less.

Did I just ruin a fridge?

Nice work. You'll have to let us know how it runs when you get it fired up.

Did I just ruin a fridge?

I dont know a whole lot about refrigeration systems, but if its the tubing itself that cracked, I would think you'd be able to braze it. Or even splice it back together with a compression fitting. The system would have to be recharged though. I read in one of Yuri's threads that he was able...

    Seriously.....Does size really matter?

Oh, right. Forgot about those. They do work well, I use them in my kegs for soda, I haven't messed with them for beer because I already had my system balanced for that.

My First CO2 Tank Is Low

Is your co2 tank in the fridge? If so it may not be low. Cold co2 doesn't expand nearly as fast and throws the gauges off.

    Seriously.....Does size really matter?

Nothing wrong with that. I use a beer bottle full of water with a thermometer epoxied in the mouth. It works just the same. As long as your measuring the temp of the liquid in the fridge.

Opinions On Ball Valve, Gate Valve, Or Globe Valve For March Pumps

Don't even consider a ball valve if flow control is a factor. They are intended for quick on/quick off type operation. You can use them to adjust flow but they will be very inconsistent and a pain to dial in. A globe valve is excellent for flow control but would probably present more of a...

    Seriously.....Does size really matter?

That's kind of messed up. I would think they would know better. The extra length is to add restriction and balance the system. You want around 3-4 psi. at the faucet. So if your reg. is set at 12 psi., your going to need 8-9 psi. of restriction. This slows the flow of the beer down so it...

Confusion around most recent BYO issue

Ive always waited for the water to come to a boil, then kill the heat and add the extract. That's just the way I was taught. Personally, I don't think it matters either way as long as the water is hot to encourage the extract to dissolve in the water. Colder water just takes longer for it to...

How many pounds of CO2 in a 10-pound CO2 tank?

I do the Co2 swap thing. Our welding supplier charges 15 bucks for a 10lb bottle. It sucked giving up my shiny, new, unused tank but they will only do swaps on smaller tanks. To refill you need a 50lb minimum, I think.

    Having some trouble with force-carbing

+1 on overcarbed. Ive never really cared for the "shake and bake" method. If you have the patience your much better off setting your reg to the correct pressure and letting it sit for a week or so. This will tell you about were your reg should be set...

    The hop shortage

I have no problem with the diminishing varieties and limited selection of hops. That will just force me to be creative. Im not afriad of tinkering with recipe's or trying new things. Thats something I'd be doing anyway, hops shortage or not. Thats half the fun. My problem is with...
