Getting out of the hobby - need advice

I'm almost there with pigs and chickens. Pigs for empathetic reasons, and chickens because they're pretty gross. Only way i do chickens anymore is deep fried crispy and slathered in hot sauce. Beef just tastes too good...although i understand that it is the most ecologically damaging meat...

Getting out of the hobby - need advice

Appreciate all the feedback. I consider my motivations for selling-off and quitting off-topic. I'll probably package the keezer with taps and CO2 system together, and sell kegs, fermenters, kettles, and other gear a-la-carte. Possibly offer a steep discount for someone to take everything at...

Getting out of the hobby - need advice

Thanks for your response - i probably will part things out. Its just that my keezer is set up for 6 taps, if i sell each tap separately, there might be some loss of value there. So, do you recommend craigslist/ebay over HBT? or just list on as many places as possible?

Getting out of the hobby - need advice

Dear Brewers, After realizing my relationship with beer is a little too one-sided, I've decided to hang up my mash-paddle and cash-out my hobby. What's the best way to list my stuff? Here and craigslist? Also should i try to bundle as much as possible, or piecemeal everything? As an example...

Those who do not learn from history...

If you choose the “read aloud” option on the website it makes the reader sound kinda silly.

Those who do not learn from history...

This thread took a detour... I wonder when the first codification of beer styles occurred? I don’t think any of the texts I linked talked about beer as being a distinct style, although they do recognize different types. This is tangentially related to the Amber conversation, and NEIPAs...

I suspect it will be gone in less than a decade. It’ll be up on the shelf with Zima...

Those who do not learn from history...

These books do not cover NEIPAs or low oxygen brewing. Do you think that people in a couple of centuries will be discussing that style or technique?

Those who do not learn from history...

There really is very little new under the sun. One of those books, A text-book of the science of brewing, which is almost 130 years old answers about 75% of the questions asked in these forums.

Those who do not learn from history...

Merry Christmas and a happy holiday season. I thought i'd share these gifts that i found on the information super highway recently. These texts show how information was disseminated in the past. How passionate brewers and beer lovers communicated in the days before the world wide web. In...

Most annoying response when you tell someone you're a homebrewer?

If anyone ask when you’re opening a brewery, ask them how much they’re willing to invest.

Request for Feedback - Spiced Ale (unique?)

So I’ll drop the reasoning for the spice selection and formulation here: This is intended to be the beer version of a popular cola beverage. If you google “coca cola clone” you’ll find many of the same ingredients.

Request for Feedback - Spiced Ale (unique?)

Thanks for the response. Might go a full bean then. My most recent beer used an oz of licorice root, coriander, and bitter orange peel at the end of the boil of a 90% Munich/10% Caramunich malt Bill. I then zested the keg with 4tsp of Halo Mandarin. It is pretty tasty

Request for Feedback - Spiced Ale (unique?)

By the lack of responses I am guessing this is either so far out there that people have no opinion on the amount zest, lactose, etc. Or The opinion is this is fine, and nothing of value can be added to improve a one-post thread

Creating an NA (Or...how I neutered my beer)

Something to think on: Both water and ethanol are very good chemical solvents. To a degree they even act as solvents to each other (google: azeotrope) However, water and ethanol are different types of solvents; oils tend to dissolve better in ethanol than water, and water is good at dissolving...

Request for Feedback - Spiced Ale (unique?)

Dear HBTers, I am formulating a spiced ale and would like some thoughts on this recipe. Koala Ale This is for a 5-gallon batch Grain Listed as percents to compensate for variations in efficiencies 76% pilsener malt 11% caraamber 5% chocolate malt 5% Amber Candi sugar (exclude from mash) 3%...

    CO2 leak detection process

Dear HBTers, Thanks in advance for your time and thoughtful responses. I am going through a bottle of CO2 every 4 weeks or so, and I'm thinking i have a CO2 leak somewhere. My setup: CO2 tank > dual gauge 2 port regulator > T tubing (one side to manifold the other for a better bottle filler)...

One to carb, one to dispense

Are you responding to me? All my CO2 tanks are in my keezer. I dont have a tap tower.

One to carb, one to dispense

OK, so for $100 i can carb and dispense at 3 different pressures/carbonation levels using this...
