    Man, I love Apfelwein

my friends and family go through this stuff so quickly whenever I have it. I'm getting married in September and have been asked to have plenty of it available so I just started up a 30g batch that will age until early September. Then half will go into kegs for the reception and days leading up...

Do you like where you live?

I'll chime in with what's sure to be an unpopular opinion... I love living in Southern CA - Orange County. I live far enough from LA to not have to deal with all of that big city pretentiousness and nut job celebrity lifestyle. I can bike to the beach, I surf every day, and the weather never...

I finally ordered my dream brew rig!

I'm very jealous. I've had my eye on a 20 gallon digital for quite some time. The price point seems so high, but it's such a nice system. I brewed on a 20 gal digital tippy dump a while back. I really never should have done that! :) Congrats and good luck!

    Did I go too big?

If that pot is too big, I'm screwed!

    Brewing At/Below Sea Level

I'm 30-40 ft above where I brew. Nothing notable to speak of.

    Switching to all-grain...stove vs outdoor?

There are a lot of factors here other than if your stove can handle it. Where do you live? If it's cold in the winter, you may want to consider indoors. Do you live with people who will be pissed about the smell and/or mess in the kitchen? Do you live in an association that may have rules...

today I was called a bad influence

(Tongue in cheek of course) You were called a bad influence for the first time in your life at age 49 by a preacher's wife?? You're not living, man :)

    Beer Machine

It's cheap enough that it could be a good place to start and there's not too much lost if he decides to take it to the next level and start brewing beer in the traditional manner. Pi also don't see a reason why you couldn't use this for fermenting small batches that are brewed in the more...

    Brewday 11-23-2014

Very nice. My brew day had to be postponed because I brew outside and we have abnormally high winds today. My efficiency went up quite a bit when I got my own mill. Most of my recipes just got an adjusted OG and expected ABV. I dialed back the grain bill on some of the beers that were high ABV...

    Beer Machine

The beer machine comes up from time to time and I hear mixed reviews. I think that for what it is, and for the cost, it's not a bad deal. Fermenting and carbing at the same time to deliver the finished product sooner seems like a win. Personally, it takes away too much of what the hobby is for...

    Brewing Incidents and other oops's

The beginners forum is not a bad place for this. There are a bunch of threads out there that are a great read for new Brewers. think-you-ruined-your-beer-set-your-fears-aside what-some-mistakes-you-made-where-your-beer-still-turned-out-great

mutiple kegs with only one Co2 tank - question

As long as your carbonated keg is at the same (relatively the same) as your desired pressure for the one you're carbing you can use the set and forget method and the new beer will carb fine without over carbing the existing. But yeah, if you want to force carb one and serve another off of one...

    Brew Room

This comes up from time to time. Using a propane burner gives off CO that needs to be vented properly. I would probably not do it at all, but if you want to, make sure to have it very well ventilated and monitor for CO. old thread here

    What do you drive?

Haha I saw the auto toss typo/autocorrect and figured it was appropriate for my car. Yours is probably significantly lighter than mine which certainly helps. It's too bad the challengers are so damn heavy.

    What do you drive?

I have 2 vehicles, both of which I am very fond of. First and foremost, my 2011 dodge challenger srt8. It's a 6speed 6.4L hemi rated at 470hp and 470tq. It's close to stock with an exhaust and mild tune. This is a pure fun driver. I have 8000 miles on it, many of which were added a quarter...

Use work chill for HERMS RIMS mashup

In a pinch I have done it the opposite way - wort chiller in hlt and run wort through the inside. I don't normally do HERMS (I would like to get there) but I was so far off on my mash temp I had to do something to increase quickly and I was too full to add enough hot water to get there. Still...

    Advice to Newbies

I'm split on this. Yes I always make beer and I'm happy with that but I want to make great beer. If something goes wrong I want to know what, why, how, etc so I can do better next time. But you're right. In the end, I do still have beer, and I am sure I enjoyed making it.

Today's Reason for having a Beer (Pic if Possible)

I can't post a pic of it, but I have a long night of work scheduled and then my weekend starts. Technically I'll be having a beer in the (not so) early morning hours of tomorrow, but I don't consider it "tomorrow" until I have been to sleep and wake up. With exceptions for the occasional all...
