2 element 120v setup wouldn't boil full volume 5 gallon batch.

I just finished building a controller per one of PJ's diagrams. I made my control panel with a pid, single element outlet, pump outlet, switches for a pump, element and pid. One element is a 6000w element hard mounted in a 70 quart pot. I made a 5500w heat stick to supplement the single element...

What gauge wire to wire up 240v controller and components.

I just ordered everything I need for my EBIAB setup. My inspiration came from this thread and of course the awesome P-J's wiring diagram in the thread. I have the controller components exactly as they are in PJ's diagram. I have ordered a 3 wire dryer cord and 6000watt 240v element with an...

Doughing in at normal 1.25-2 quarts/lb.

Anyone else do this? I just did my first BIAB and it worked out well. I dough in with around 1.5 quarts per pound and mash for an hour. Then I'll add enough boiling water to get to my mash out temp. If I still need more water to get to my total mash water amount, I add enough water at mash out...

    Helles critique. Also first decoction.

I have had this one planned for a while. I want a nice Helles lager for spring time. I plan to follow Kaiser's decoction as illustrated in his videos. I'm pretty excited to do my first decoction. I plan to do the same with my Oktoberfest planned for next month. I'm still figuring amounts for the...

    Lemon Shandy recipe.

i am planning a lemon shandy recipe for spring/summer. From my research it seems it's best to mix it as you serve it. I'm thinking I'll brew an AG wheat beer with 5 or so pounds of pale and 3 pounds of wheat MALT. I like Leine and they use cluster so I'll use cluster to about 20 or so ibus. I...

Nottingham took my beer from 1.052 to 1.007.

Is this possible or am I getting a false reading for some reason. I corrected the temp of my sample, mashed at 154*F, and as stated OG was 1.052, FG was 1.007. Was the attenuation just that good?

Compact paint can fermentation heater build.

I use a mini fridge for my fermentation chamber and have very limited space for a heat source. I tried the $40 24w reptile pad that seemed like a great choice and it came up short. I tried the ceramic space heater, but couldn't find one that fit. So I thought about the pain can, but knew the...

Cooler mash tun kinda bubbled a little after mash.

so I did my first all grain which went off perfectly. Hit my mash temps perfect. Preheated my tun with hot water for a few hours, doughed in at 170*F and hit 154*F. Sparge with 175*F water. Hit my volumes and gravity on the dot, but as I cleaned out my mash tun I noticed that the walls of the...

    American Amber recipe critique.

Im goin for a nice balanced Amber ale. This will be my first all grain batch as well as my first batch on my new 17.5 gallon brew kettle. I still need to do a test boil to see what kind of boil off with it because this thing is huge. After that it may or may not need some tweaking. I was gonna...

Can't keep copper from kinking for IC

so I'm making a dual coil IC with 60' of 5/8" od copper I bought a while back on clearance. The first coil went without a hitch. Looks great....the second one not so much. I wanted them to go in opposite directions and what did I do?!? Make them going the same direction. So now I'm trying to...

    German brewing book suggestion.

I find myself enjoying German styles more and more. I've read Kaiser's website top to bottom and it has a TON of great info. I'd love to learn more about brewing German styles and learning more techniques. I've googled the hell out of it and I can't find much info about the subject. Any help is...

Paulaner Salvator double bock on a cold winter day.

This is very nice and warm on this cold winter day! It has a bit of an alcohol taste to it though. Anyone else get this from it? Otherwise it's very nice and malty! Edit: I don't know why, but my pics always end up sideways on HBT :drunk:

PWM for stir plate. Will this one work?

i looked into using a pwm instead of the normal pot and a pre done pwm is not very expensive and is pretty much plug and play. Will this one work? I found it in the cheap and easy thread and posted in there, but got no response. PWM I found on Amazon.

    Shark bite inline thermometer.

just found this little gem which I would think could be GREAT for a CFC or whatever you want to use it for. It's lead free and it says you can use em for potable water so I assume it's safe for wort. Looked pretty cool so I figured I would share. Sharkbite inline thermometer

    Diameter of IC.

i bought a 60' section of 5/8" od copper from Home Depot a while back on clearance for like $40. I just bought a 70qt brew kettle and I'm wondering what kind of diameter I should make it. I was gonna go with a dual coil design with a big and little one inside with a t and the bottom and top for...
