    Second batch

Just brewed myself a batch of Brickwarmer as well. Should be ready in about a month :) Did you transfer to secondary or leave it in primary the entire time?

Is my understanding on priming correct?

Most people will tell you to boil your priming solution, let it cool then add it to a bottling bucket. Google priming sugar calculator for amounts.

Newbie question, Beer equipment for wine & vice versa?

I would think as long as you clean it and sanitize very well you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

(Home made) PBW - safe for glass? (Safe in general?)

I agree. I haven't been brewing long, but is assume that straight oxi free would do the trick. I would think that the sanitizing part would be the most important.

Newbie question, Beer equipment for wine & vice versa?

You sure can. My mom used to make wine and when she heard I wanted to start making beer she gave me all her equipment. The bucket, carboys, tubing, hydrometer, etc. is all the same.

    NB Brickwarmer Holiday Red Ale

Og was 1.062. I usually rack to secondary after a week or so, but this may be the batch where I finally do away with secondary. Seems like more and more brewers are doing this as well. I will test the gravity after 7 days and see where I'm at.

    NB Brickwarmer Holiday Red Ale

I'm on day 5 and just changed to an airlock. Bubbles have slowed to about one every 7 seconds. Does this seem normal? Temp has been consistent at 63 degrees. Did you guys rack to secondary or keep it in primary the whole time?

    NB Brickwarmer Holiday Red Ale

I used the 1028 Wyeast activator pack. As of this morning the temp was still at 63 degrees and it was bubbling like crazy. About once every second. Still no krausen coming out of the blow hose, but I'll take that as a good thing lol.

    NB Brickwarmer Holiday Red Ale

So I ended up making this kit and I have a blow hose hooked up but it doesn't appear I needed one. Brewed in a 6 gallon bucket last night and as of today the hose is bubbling about once every 10 seconds. Did I possibly do something wrong? Temp is at 63 degrees.

    Northern Brewers Brickwarmer Holiday Red

I think I effed up. The instructions called for the orange peel at the end of boil, so I added them at about 1 minute. I then strained them when I added wort to fermenter. Any thoughts?

    Temperature for yeast

You probably don't want to keep opening the fermenter to take readings. This could possibly contaminate your beer. I'd recommend a temperature strip on the outside of the fermenter. You can get these on Amazon for a couple bucks. I use them but I mostly go off of my room temperature. You can...

    Newbie question

I'm pretty new to brewing as well, but I would try wrapping a blanket around it. You can also just keep your thermostat turned up for a few weeks. This is what I do lol.
