    Lactose

Has anyone had any issues with brewing with lactose. When I opened my fermenter for the first time to pitch in the cocoa nips it looked liked the yeast cake hadn't dropped. Wasn't sue if this was something related to the lactose. The sample tasted outstanding. No off flavors or aromas. So I...

    Max grain bill question

Quick question, anyone know the max grain bill would be for one of those 5 gallon paint strainer bags from menards be? Can it hold 10 plus pounds? Thanks for all your input! Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    Cold crash question

So I was cold crashing in my fermentation chamber that can only hold one carboy. Had to take it out to put a batch that is fermenting because the temp got way to high. Any issues with letting the cold crash batch come up to room temp before kegging? I wouldn't think so but was wondering...

    Haze in stockpot after cleaning

So after I have cleaned my stockpot there is a dark film at the bottom and sides. It won't come off, I have cleaned it right after my brew day. I'm an all grain brewer so nothing was burned during the mash, any idea how to get my stockpot looking like new? Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    Calculated efficiency

Had a quick question. When you are trying to figure out your efficiency, do you use your pre-boil gravity reading or the reading after the boil is complete? Thanks for the responses!

    Type of Kegs

So I know the norm of kegging is corny kegs. My question is can you use "commercial" 5 gallon kegs? What are the pros and cons? Thanks for the input! Cheers!

    Risk of Bottle Bombs?

It's nearly been 3 weeks since a brewed this batch. Final gravity is supposed to be 1.012-1.015. I did a gravity reading at it was 1.020. What's my risk of bottle bombs when it comes time to bottle? This is a 5 gallon batch calling for 5oz of priming sugar. Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Hey everyone! I decided to enter a homebrew contest. I'm looking for a little help as I am new to this hobby. With the form I have to fill out I have to determine the color and bitterness. I'm entering 2 brews, brown ale, and a 4 hoped citrus ale. Any help on helping me determine what I need to...

    Hot Smell

Don't know if this has been covered but I couldn't find it. I usually alway take one peak during fermentation. I brewed a brown ale all grain BIAB. The smell coming from the fermenter burned my nose. Any ideas what's going on?

    How long do kits last

I have an oatmeal stout kit I bought last week. My problem is I may be moving within the next 3 to 4 weeks so I'm hesitate to brew this weekend. So my question is how long can I wait to brew that batch? Thanks for the advice.

    Another Irish Moss question

Brewed a 2 Gallon batch today. I added a tea spoon of the Irish Moss. I also strained the batch after I chilled it to yeast pitching temps. My concern from what I have been reading is that the amount of Irish Moss is for a 5 gallon batch. I'm just looking for some reassurance that I didn't mess...

    Bottling Question.

Pretty new to this hobby. I have 2 batches fermenting and I'm already thinking about summer and building my supply. I'm wondering generally how long you can let your brew sit in the bottles before it goes bad? Keep in mind it won't be refrigerated until its time to drink. Looking forward to...
