For Sale Lots of random stuff

I finally got around to cleaning out my brew cabinet. I'm getting rid of bottling stuff, some keg stuff, some sensors..... too much to mention. I took pictures with descriptions in them. The goal is to move it all out, but please be realistic. I'm not going to run to the post office for one...

An alternative to buying beer gas?

I've used beer gas for years to dispense my stouts. My 80cuft (tall guy) steel tank somehow or another developed a leak at the valve handle. In checking the stamps on it, it looks like it has been recertified over and over since 1957!! It will need it again, plus a fix to the valve. I can't...

    Another poor brewhouse efficiency question

I have a simple philosophy; I brew to volume since I DRINK volume, not abv. I stick to a well tested and practiced procedure. Fine grind, consistent temperature control in mash via near continuous recirculation (generally 152 degrees but I tweak a little based on style), as many small water...

    Cleaning your Bag

My system is built around continuous recirculation. I have to get the wort to flow from the Sanke head (upside down keg for mash tun), through the SS coil in the HLT and to the sparge arm. This way the grain bed is not only kept at the desired temperature but it is constantly washing the...

Beer things to do in Paris

I'm a brewer and a beer drinker. That said, don't waste your short time in Paris/France simply pursuing a good beer. Most everything is available internationally these days, and to be honest, French beer isn't materially better/different than others. Paris however, is materially different...

How long do you age tinctures before use or how quickly are they ready?

I make a tincture of the Xmas spices for my annual Winter Warmer 10+% abv beer. In vanilla vodka I add cinnamon, mace, clove, nutmeg and ginger powders. I let sit for a few days, decant off the liquid and add 1% by volume to the kegged beer. The base beer is basically an English dark brown...

    Cleaning your Bag

Old thread I realize... Does anyone find that as their bag ages it becomes less porous? I use a HERMS system and am pretty much constantly cycling the wort through the coil in the HLT and back to a sparging head over the grain bed. With time, my bag seems to hold in more of the liquid...

    Simple DIY Keg Management

Here I was thinking that lifting a keg up every now and then was enough to gauge how much was left in it...:agressive:

Does Tito's Vodka have propylene glycol, an antifreeze?

The ONLY reason Tito's or anyone else would add PG to a distilled product like vodka would be to add some viscosity to it. I've never heard of an allergy to PG, but hey, I'm not a doctor. It would surprise me if they added any. That said, as a vodka aficionado, Tito's is highly overrated...

What do you use when you squeeze BIAB?

I'm having a difficult time finding something that would expand sufficiently. The best I've come up with is a small diameter inner tube. Messy...... between having to slide it over the bag, then air it up, it still would only squeeze ~6" or so of the bag, resulting in a dumbbell effect. I'm...

What do you use when you squeeze BIAB?

I'm liking the idea. Ideally something with an easy hand pump or even a compressor line. Slipping it between the bag and the side wall of the keggle should work to squish it against the far wall if the expansion of the bag is big enough. The other issue is preventing the contents from coming...

What do you use when you squeeze BIAB?

I'm a 3 vessel HERMS setup using Sanke kegs. We are always brewing 10 gallon batches and often have ~30lbs of grain in the mash. I use one of Wilser's bags to keep the grains from flowing around the system. Recently the bag seems to be less permeable than previously and is holding the wort...

HERMS - use HLT for cooling

This was SOP for me until I bought a chill plate. It worked fine, albeit less efficient. I'm actually thinking of doing both; go through the HERMS coil first, then the plate chiller.

Lalbrew Kveik Voss dry yeast - starter?

Personally, I like to use Vienna in a more limited quantities. It needs something very neutral so as to let its flavor shine through, but no need to have it as a SMASH. A little cara to build some body is always good. The Munich might compete with the Vienna. Not sure about wheat...

Lalbrew Kveik Voss dry yeast - starter?

And it tastes great! The Columbus/Kveik combination yields a low level grapefruit/orange taste that goes very well with the Vienna and the lightness of the beer. This one is definitely in the rotation for summer time brewing!

Lalbrew Kveik Voss dry yeast - starter?

Well, beer is out and in the process of carbonating. Taste very good. It has a hint of bitterness to it on the back end that experience tells me will fade. I only used 2 oz of Columbus for 13.5gal boil volume. It has a grapefruit note to it, so I wonder if that is the Kveik fruitiness that...
