    krausen disappeared

Hey guys. Brewed up a belgian amber ale supplied from my local homebrew shop sunday. Fast forward to monday am and have a nice .5" to .75" thick krausen forming and active fermentation was seen. Check on it tuesday am and foam had settled to just some thin rafts. Background on brew is: 5.75 lbs...

    Changing Ingredients in Mr. Beer

What I did was add the dme before the boil. It tends to clump up so add a little at a time and stir, stir, stir. Watch very carefully as the mix comes to a boil, it'll start to foam up and happen really fast. Keep a spray bottle handy and shoot the foam if it looks like it'll boil over your pot...

Mr Beer - Read all about it and ask questions

Yeah, I've been reading up on washing. Seems like a much more affordable option in the long run. I brewed their blueberry lightning a while ago and made my first starter from a wyeast lager yeast to use in it since I wanted to cold ferment. Came out really good! I'm sure the starter was overkill...

Yup to all of the above, scrabbler. You're only limited to your imagination! Just subbing for a premium yeast yields great results...2 grams just isn't enough, either. I have since moved on to AG brewing, but I credit mr beer for the base of my knowledge of brewing. I still use the LBK's as my...

I agree. Mr beer does rock...with a few additions. I have made some awesome beers that rival NB kits!

    What's in your fermenter(s)?

An Oktoberfest split batch. Got a lager version fermenting away and planning on brewing an ale variant this weekend using wyeast 1450. Should be interesting

Why has this hobby lasted so long????

+1 for me to all the above reasons. I guess it's in my blood to want to tinker and express my creativity (same goes with why i'm becoming moderately tattooed). I also thought that it would bring my few friends a little closer since we've all kinda gone our separate ways, but they don't really...

    BIAB Brewing (with pics)

This topic has really opened my eyes to just how easy brewing all grain can be. Been brewing extract for the past 9 months and enjoyed it, but wanted more control and understanding of the processes and the privilege to say i truely brewed a beer from scratch. So i finally decided to take the...

POLL: What type of fermenter do you use?

3 Mr Beer LBK's. 2 for fermenting, the other for batch priming

Mr Beer - Read all about it and ask questions

I've been brewing with Mr. Beer now for about 8 months. Started off with the basic refills, then graduated to their recipe kits. In that time i have experimented with adding dme, carapils and other steeping grains, higher quality yeasts, and most recently fruit (pumpkin to be exact) to enhance...

Pumpkin Ale season is a comin'

Post Road Pumpkin Ale by Brooklyn Brewery and DFH Punkin are my faves. I would definately like to try S.T. Pumking tho too.

    Etched glassware?

Check out Bass Pro. A buddy of mine had a four pack of glasses made for me with my brewery name on them. Not sure how flexible they are with logos, but it's worth a look.
