Kegland Series X advice - re gas inlet via PET hole.

Instructions say to remove the PET cap and insert gas tube through. That's fine, but a large hole is left through which cold air can escape. What have you used to insulate the hole?

    Homebrewers in Central America

Just saw this, Frosty. I brew sporadically, and have a friend who has all equipment but hasn't brewed since he moved here. We are near town of Grecia, about 45 minutes west of SJO aeropuerto. Where are you located?

Is the back of my Frigidaire keezer freon free?

My keezer is a Frigidaire 8.8 cu. ft. (can't find the exact model number; brand new 2 years ago) . I can't find any info on line that tells me where the cooling lines are located. Up til now I've had my 5 lb. CO2 tank inside on the compressor shelf, but now I want to mount it outside and run the...

    Help with stc-1000 programming?

Shout out a big thanks to pfgonzo and BigFloyd, in Posts 4 and 5 of this thread. Made setting my STC-1000 a breeze; simple as could be. My keezer is now cooling to my initial serving temp of 40 (4.4) degrees. The freezer initially kicked on after the 3 minute default time before I had a chance...

What a Brew Day: Thunder! Lightning! Mold!

Brew day started out peacefully. An ESB kit put together by Brew Bros in Portland - specialty grains, LME, freeze-dried Goldings, and S-04. Brought down to Costa Rica several months ago, and I procrastinated brewing. I decided to add the LME at flame out rather than at the beginning of the...

How tight for barbs on gas manifold?

Easy question for more experience brewers. I'm assembling my keezer. How far past hand right should the barbs screwed onto the gas manifold be? Half turn? Full turn? More? I don't want to overtighten, but I'd like to know what the sweet spot for tightening is! Thanks in advance for your...

    What's your user name mean?

One of my roommates (10 of us) my sophomore year in college decided we all needed nicknames. He (House) decided mine would be Hook. Inasmuch as he was a lineman on the football team, and had more hair on his back than I have on my chest (and I have a hairy chest), I did not object. Then I became...

    Slow fermentation? Confirmation question.

SafAle 05. I expected more vigorous activity. The wort smells fine, and from the small taste I had from the wine thief, the flavor will be very good. The hop schedule had only 2 oz of Chinook during the boil, and 1 oz for dry hopping in a week or two. But the small taste/smell I had was very...

    Slow fermentation? Confirmation question.

I'm brewing NB's Chinook IPA. It is at 7 days in the fermenter today. I'm fermenting in a a water bath cooled by frozen water bottles, and ferm temps have been in the mid 60s all week, mostly 64 to 67, although one day it crept up to 68. I used a blowoff tube, but never saw bubbles in the...

    Lid Question for No-Collar Keezer

Beautiful build, mothprodd! What is the lid surfaced with? Looks like a single piece of stone. Heavy much? I like the simplicity. I'm planning to have a tower, though. My Frigidaire 8.8 cu ft will hold up to 5 kegs on the floor without needing a collar, so I'm just going to use the existing...

EJ Beverage Ultra Barrier Silver beer line review

Thank you for this review, Rev. I am just now beginning to set up my keezer and will begin kegging when the IPA I brewed yesterday is ready 4-6 weeks from now. I had notice the comments about the plastic taste in some other threads, and so when I ordered my kegging equipment, I bought 50' of Bev...

    Lid Question for No-Collar Keezer

I don't think I explained myself well. I am keeping the freezer lid, and mounting a plywood top to the lid. I have seen folks remove the lid, attach the plywood top to the lid, then re-mount the lid. I don't see the need for the extra step. I can mount the plywood top, drill holes, etc., with...

    Lid Question for No-Collar Keezer

I'm about to begin my keezer build (I'll start a separate thread) and I am not going to have a collar. On several threads for no-collar keezers, I've seen the top removed for drilling the holes, mounting the plywood top, and so on. What is the reason for that? I can't see any problem doing...
