    North English Brown partial thoughts?

I kept the carbonation low on this one. Just left it at 9lbs. for the week, and I have to say it is delicious. I was worried it would be too sweet, but it is spot on. Very balanced, with some toffee notes, and a toastiness Medium light mouthfeel, nice nose, malty with a touch of fruitiness. Very...

    North English Brown partial thoughts?

Brewed this a couple weeks ago with some ingredients I had hanging around. Any thoughts on style or possible tasting notes? Any clue what pressure I should keg this one at? 1kg Maris Otter 0.46kg Vienna 0.45kg Amber 0.28kg Carapils 0.23kg Crystal 120 mashed at 68.5*C for 60 minutes in...

    Nest step after beer kits?

I am assuming you are talking about the kits that have the wort already prepared in a bag, and you have had to place in fermentation vessel, and add the yeast? My progression went from a 2 liter pop bottle kit I received as a gift, to Coopers canned kits, to playing with hops and steeping...

American Pale Ale Nierra Sevada (Session SNPA Clone)

Thanks for this. My wife brought me some of this last week while visiting the US. As I live in Canada we cant get SN beers here, and I love the APA, and have been looking to clone this by doing a partial extract. After reading everything here I think I have the recipe I am going to try. Just...

Should Have Started Doing This A Long Time Ago

I guess it is all how you look at it. For me it is time I am not watching silly movies with the wife or stuff. Heck some days I kind of feel like I should pay to brew just to get some alone "my" time. Cheers to that

    Lager yeast selection

Man that is an insane amount of yeast. I'm no expert here, only been brewing over a year, but have brewed lots almost 40 batches. Can that be right for yeast amount? C'mon where are all the experts? Couldn't you just make like a couple 2 liter starters and be ok? I know I have lots to learn...

Should Have Started Doing This A Long Time Ago

I make this argument alot, and I'm usually flamed for it...but here I am doing it again. People do some creative accounting to justify their brewing. They obsess over saving $2-3 on a pound of hops, but figure that the 6 hours they spent brewing is somehow "free". I'm all for saving...

    Lager yeast selection

great info guys my last four beers have been lagers. I am only drinking one right now, but it turned out so well I have three on the go now. I used S-23 for two of them and Octoberfest from WL. I havent tasted the beers done with the WL Octoberfest yeast(one is still in fermentation)yet so I...

Yup. On tap I have "Twin Peaks" Amber Lager and "Mandingo" Dark Ale. I bottled these and created the labels for Christmas girts.

    Pipeline

Took me 2 batches before I realized I need to start a pipeline so I never run dry again.I have in my fridge now a dark, amber, and IPA. All were 23litre batches, the IPA and Amber is almost gone. I have bottle conditioning a lager, and a weitbier which should be ready in a couple weeks. Brewing a...

    adjusting batch size

I have that kit and am adding 1kg of light DME and am going to boil 1oz. of cascade hops for 30mins. and 1oz. of cascades for the last 10mins. Also am cutting this back to 21.5litres. Hopefully it gets me around 4-4.5 % ABV. Don't boil the Morgans kit, as it is already hopped. Wow didnt see how...

    Coopers English Bitter

Love the vids.I watched this one and the Craigtube one on the English bitter, I think it was the one where Craig went"holy&*^%". It made me laugh, and I knew I had to try it. It is good, will definately brew again. Yours had substantially more head than mine, but I think it was due to all the...

    Coopers English Bitter

With all the sugars I used, my OG was 1.043, my FG was 1.010, for 4.31% ABV. After time this beer just got better, and is now gone.I would brew again, but with some specialty grains, and less sugar.

    Coopers' Draught OG 1034

You can do as Grasshopper suggest, plus use less water 21-22L.That will also boost ABV.I have a Coopers Dark Ale right now at 6.28%ABV. I did a partial extract and 22L of water, 1kg of DME,and 400g of liquid adjunct(high glucose brewers syrup).:mug:
