Adding fruit to the secondary... still need a secondary?

So the prevailing wisdom is that a secondary is not necessary, so I've stopped doing it for my standard brews. But now I'm using a recipe that calls for adding fruit during fermentation (hibiscus/mango blonde ale). Specifically, it says to add to the secondary. Can I ignore that and just add it...

PID temp freaking out. Bad cable?

While brewing last weekend, my Inkbird PID for the HLT started freaking out, with the temp readout jumping up to 600F, back down to 120F, then showing the display for no probe attached (orAL). Helpful video: My initial thought is that it is simply a bad cable. But is there anything else that...

    My Riptide broke!

How did this happen? It worked find during the brew day yesterday. I undid the triclamp and pulled the head off as one piece and put it in a bucket of PBW along with other items in need of cleaning. When I pulled out and separated it into its parts, I found this little black nubbin. It took me a...

Andy Capp this week was relevant to our interest.

I mean more relevant than his usual hanging out in pubs and drinking beer... I haven't read any Andy Capp comic strips in years, but he popped into my head this morning for no apparent reason, so I hopped on line to see what he's up to. And this one was published just this week: I don't...

    My Motorized Mill (MMM)

Just showing off the motorized grain mill I built recently. Mill is a 2SG Crankandstein. In my workshop I restore and use vintage power tools. They all operate with external motors (originally sold separately), so I've manage to accumulate a few extras. I picked up an old Craftsman bandsaw that...

What is your home brewery's name?

I've been struggling to come up with a name for my basement brewery. Have you named yours? What is it? What was the inspiration? Help me get my creative juices flowing. Hmm... "Creative Juices Brewing"... ewww, no. Back to the drawing board.

Inkbird ITC-1000 both heat and cool lights on

I just noticed on my keezer, the inkbird controller heat and cool lights are BOTH on. The heat light is brighter. I guess it's not affecting anything as there's nothing attached to the heating side, and the keezer is cooling as it should, but just wondering if this is normal? I hadn't...

Connecticut Maltose Express is NOT(?) closing. What LHB shops remain in CT?

Maltose Express in Monroe, CT just announced they've lost their lease. Their FB post implies they are not relocating (they haven't responded to any questions about that), nor did they mention the fate of Veracious Brewing next door. This makes me sad. It also made me try to find what HB shops...

    Better World Books throwin' shade?

I ordered a brewing book from Better World Books (online used book seller), and got this email "written" by the book. I guess they didn't realize what I ordered: Holy canasta indeed! Cameron

    Mini Oxygen regulator question

Before I drop $12 on a bottle of O2, I need to find out if there's a problem with the regulator I was given. This is the one. The knob doesn't turn. But it says on it "Do not force knob". So does that mean it doesn't turn when it's not attached to the bottle? Or is it seized with age? -Cameron
