When in doubt, go with copper

This makes me feel better about all my copper fittings, chiller, etc. Seems like it may be much better than stainless. http://thechart.blogs.cnn.com/2013/05/14/copper-in-hospital-rooms-may-stop-infections/

    Bucket Spigot

Is there any reason not to use a bucket with a spigot for fermenting then draw off to a keg rather than siphon? If OK, how far up from the bottom would you install the spigot? I seem to draw up alot of yeast when siphoning.

    PID question

I have ordered a cheap PID to control my mash temps but will be using the same kettle with 3500 watt element to boil. My question is how to control the boil. Will I need an additional voltage controller to reduce the power to the heating element to control boiling? Thanks in advance!

Any electricians out there re. GFCI?

As I am gathering equipment for my electric brew kettle I have bought some 4000 watt voltage controls to vary my current to the elements. What I would like to do is install these upstream of the GFCI receptacles. I am concerned that varying the voltage will cause the GFCI to trip. Would it...

    Cheap GFCI protection

I have been trying to come up with an electric kettle without spending a fortune. Tell me what you all think of using (2) 2000 watt 120 volt water heater elements plugged into 2 GFCI protected receptacles on separate circuits. Is 4000 watts enough? 120 volt GFCI receptacles are cheap. 240 volt...

    Brew day checklist

So, I am still aquireing equipment but have ordered supplies for an American IPA (everybody's first batch, right?). I am trying to make a checklist to be sure I don't forget any steps. From my reading and research I am somewhat confused on the order of some steps like lautering, vorlauf...

    Food grade hype?

So, this is my first post. I quit brewing extract about 15 years ago because of the hassles with bottling and all the great beer coming on the market. When I started in high school there wasn't any beer worth drinking although we made do. I started out brewing with blue ribbon malt extract and...
