36 hours and NO BUBBLES!?!? Should I be worried???

So what's the consensus on this? Did you take a hydro reading? Has it been fermenting?

    Oatmeal Stout Yooper's Oatmeal Stout

Did anyone use debittered black malt in place of the of the black barley? I know it's not considered to be a direct sub, but, like many others, I could not find the elusive black barley and was too impatient and cheap to order it from Briess. I'm curious to compare results with those who...

36 hours and NO BUBBLES!?!? Should I be worried???

Hahaha, hunter_la5 just dealt with me yesterday on this same issue! Lesson learned - take a gravity reading, if you haven't already, before freaking out. Thought my double belgian wit was doing nothing due to no visible sign of activity. Turns out it was working hard and had already gone from...

WYeast 3944 - No airlock activity after 48 hours

There must not be a good seal on this bucket. It's new; first batch in it. It's just surprising because I have another of the same brand bucket, and the seal is impressive. Also, I went into this batch thinking I was going to have this huge krausen and need a blow off tube, etc. so, to get...

WYeast 3944 - No airlock activity after 48 hours

Well, friends...looks like we have another classic case of RDWHAHB! Geeez, embarrassing. Not only has this sucker been fermenting, it's freaking done! Not once did that airlock budge, and what I thought was bubbles left over from aerating, was actually a thiiiiiin layer of fermentation...

WYeast 3944 - No airlock activity after 48 hours

So, I've been thinking...the only thing different this time around from my previous batches is that this particular bucket I'm using is brand new. I've never used it; it could possibly have an air leak somewhere or not have as tight a seal. Hmmmm. At any rate, hydro reading this evening....

    Kombucha Flavouring

I always flavor my booch! My favorites are: - grape juice - a pineapple/orange/banana blend in the little cans by Dole - These: http://www.oceanspray.com/Products/Juices/By-Flavor/Citrus.aspx - a couple whole mint leaves thrown in is awesome. Mash them up in your fingers before added to help...

Hearing this makes me hopeful :ban:

WYeast 3944 - No airlock activity after 48 hours

Good reminder. I was going to take a reading, but I didn't have time to sanitize my hydrometer as I was rushing to get to work. Will do so this evening.

WYeast 3944 - No airlock activity after 48 hours

Fermenter does actually have a very good seal. It's an Austin Homebrew bucket; they're pretty awesome. I always see airlock activity.

WYeast 3944 - No airlock activity after 48 hours

It's the best!!! Takes a woman familiar in the kitchen to come up with such ingenuity ;-) You should see what I can do with a pantry full of "nothing" for dinner!

WYeast 3944 - No airlock activity after 48 hours

I oxygenate the wort heavily with an immersion blender. Works great. The starter was not on a stir plate, but swirled often. The starter was foamy and full of life. Did two cycles with it, as well, using this recipe/method...

WYeast 3944 - No airlock activity after 48 hours

I'm stumped! I brewed AHS's Belgian Double Wit AG recipe this past Sunday, made a very healthy and large starter, pitched into a 70F well aerated wort..................and nothing is happening. No airlock activity, and we're going on about 60 hours since pitching. I mean, that starter was...

Who has the most obscure hobby?

I don't think any of my hobbies are obscure, per say...but I am a "hobby addict," for sure. My hobbies are a vast survey of all the usual suspects. I would say my obsession with fermenting things would be considered the most obscure if you were to ask my friends, but I know that's not obscure...

    No One Actually Likes Mead

Awesome! Try one of the carbed 'nectars' next. Those are my fave. They're dryer and very refreshing.

Introduce your brew dog! (errrr cat? deer? ferret?)

My guy is a shelter guy, too! Big advocate of adoption. And I can see cats being the fermentation type...takes patience.

No other brew dogs out there???

Introduce your brew dog! (errrr cat? deer? ferret?)

This is George! Sometimes he gets annoyed with brewing because it takes away from cuddle time. He's lazy...and a hipster, obvs.
